With the title of Best Tourist Village for Tra Que Vegetable Village and UNESCO's Global Creative City designation, Hoi An has received opportunities and leverage to boost tourism.

These are considered two important milestones, marking the success and effectiveness of preserving the cultural values and landscapes of Hoi An's villages and traditional crafts. This achievement also opens up opportunities for satellite villages, especially those in neighboring areas.

“Hoi An currently has 430 hectares of agricultural land, and this area is always carefully monitored and preserved. This also serves as a foundation and condition for Hoi An to develop agricultural and rural tourism, as well as to improve the quality of OCOP products and rural industrial products to serve tourism,” shared Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City.

Outlying areas such as Cam Kim, Cam Thanh, Cam An, and neighboring localities like Dien Ban, Duy Xuyen, Thang Binh… are beginning to follow the pace of rural tourism development.

“Currently, Kim Bong carpentry village and Cam Kim agricultural village (Cam Kim commune) are being planned as eco-village and craft villages. After the Hoi An master plan is approved, the city will urgently finalize the Cam Kim zoning plan, which will include specific projects such as the Happy Village, an agricultural and eco-tourism area, as well as many other projects aimed at building Cam Kim tourism village in a sustainable direction, preserving rural production industries alongside fishing, and laying the foundation for strong future development,” Mr. Son added.

Identifying advantages

Rural tourism has been identified by Quang Nam province as a pillar in its tourism and service development strategy. To promote rural tourism in Quang Nam, especially in the western and southwestern villages, in addition to budget allocation, specific support mechanisms and policies are needed. The requirement is to mobilize local people to participate and share costs, thereby enhancing their role and responsibility in the operation process.

At the recently concluded first International Conference on Rural Tourism, experts listed two main limitations in the development of agricultural and rural tourism: transportation infrastructure and financial resources.

In comparison with Quang Nam, although some rural roads and basic transportation infrastructure have been invested in, they still seem incomplete and do not meet requirements, especially the network of transportation connections, parking lots, and other facilities.

Besides investment resources, regulations in resource and land management, and the conversion of agricultural land to commercial and service land use, always present difficult obstacles due to legal constraints.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, acknowledged that in recent years, Quang Nam province has implemented many programs and resolutions to support tourism development, as well as investing in infrastructure development to a commensurate standard...

However, to strongly promote rural tourism development, finding sustainable financial and investment solutions, integrating agriculture and tourism spaces, and enhancing benefit sharing are major strategic issues.

Furthermore, connecting stakeholders such as government agencies, local communities, organizations, businesses, and financial partners is essential to create a foundation for long-term cooperation and ensure that rural tourism develops based on local resources.
