On September 29th, the Road Management Area III announced that it had sent a document requesting Project Management Board 2 ( Ministry of Transport ) to repair damage and ensure traffic safety on the section of the Central Highlands Transport Connectivity Enhancement Project (upgrading National Highway 19) currently under construction.
Road damage in the section passing through the center of Dak Doa district ( Gia Lai ).
Upon inspection, the Road Management Office III noted numerous damages on the National Highway 19 upgrade and expansion project, which is being implemented by Project Management Board 2 as the investor.
Due to the impact of recent rains, the road surface through Dak Doa town from Km152+300 to Km155+00 has been damaged; potholes have appeared in some sections of the asphalt concrete road.
Some deep potholes pose a very high risk of traffic accidents for vehicles traveling on this section of the road.
Road Management Area III requests Project Management Board 2 to direct relevant units to inspect and assess the quality of the construction work and instruct the contractor to promptly repair and rectify the damage on this section of the road.
In Thanh Binh village, Binh Giao commune (Chu Prong district), some localized damage also occurred.
According to the Binh Giao commune authorities, a series of traffic accidents have occurred in a short period of time, forcing local residents to find ways to warn of dangerous sections of the road in order to ensure the safety of those traveling on this route.
Many sections of the road surface are damaged.
According to Project Management Board 2, the damaged section is located in package XL04A, spanning 23.7 km and implemented by the Joint Venture of Hop Tien Co., Ltd. and Vinadenta JSC. Currently, the weather is sunny and dry, and the construction unit is implementing measures to patch potholes and carry out repairs.
Mr. Pham Thanh Nam, Deputy Director of Vina Delta Joint Stock Company, shared that the construction unit is working on a 11km stretch of road. To date, 99% of the work has been completed, with only repairs and cleaning remaining within the project area. It is expected that the project will be handed over to the investor for acceptance and use by October 2024.
Mr. Nam also stated that they are coordinating with other agencies to assess the cause.
"The unit has taken samples to test the asphalt concrete layer. In addition, after prolonged heavy rain combined with heavy traffic, the damage has spread," Mr. Nam said.
According to Mr. Nam, the repairs are expected to be completed within the next few days to ensure traffic safety. After the rainy season ends, the contractor will cut out all damaged sections and repave the road.
Reportedly, the project to enhance transportation connectivity in the Central Highlands region, also known as the National Highway 19 upgrade project, is a 143km stretch of highway passing through Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces, which commenced in 2021.
The project has a total investment of over 3,600 billion VND and is managed by Project Management Board 2. According to the plan, the project will be completed before December 31, 2024.
