Russian tourists visiting Vietnam have increased sharply.
Russian tourists are flocking to Vietnam thanks to direct flights and a strong ruble. The number of visitors surpassed that of Thailand and Indonesia, with travel demand increasing by 5% in March. Airfares rose by 49%, and hotel bookings by 25% compared to the previous year.
The Association of Russian Travel Agencies (ATOR) reports a surge in Russian tourists to Vietnam, not only during the autumn and winter months, but also during May holidays and the summer.
Maya Lomidze, head of the association, said several factors contributed to this increase, including pent-up demand, the resumption of direct flights between the two sides, and the appreciation of the ruble.
"According to our estimates, Vietnam will definitely be in the top 10 summer destinations for Russians, possibly even the top 5," she said.
Direct flights between Russia and Vietnam have resumed after a long suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aeroflot launched direct flights to Nha Trang on March 22nd. Vietnam Airlines plans to operate regular flights between Moscow and Hanoi from May 2025.
Meanwhile, Azur Air and Pegas Touristik are expanding their charter flight programs.
The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, Timur Sadykov, expressed hope that the flights would boost tourism, not only reaching but surpassing pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, and contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.
According to the travel website Travelata.ru , demand for group tours to Vietnam increased by 5% in March and 9% in February, both compared to the previous months.
According to Sletat.ru , tour sales from February 1st to March 18th tripled compared to the same period last year. Level.Travel also recorded a fourfold increase in tour sales in March. This makes Vietnam the fastest-growing destination, surpassing Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries in the region.

According to a report by the booking site Ostrovok, hotel bookings in Vietnam have increased by 25% since the beginning of March, with the average cost per night at 5,100 rubles (1.5 million VND), an increase of 18%.
