Opening of the "Red Journey"

On the morning of July 18th, at the 25B Conference Center ( Thanh Hoa City), the Thanh Hoa Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation inaugurated the 12th "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Bloodlines" in 2024 and honored outstanding blood-donating groups, individuals, and families in 2023-2024.

Attending the opening ceremony were Comrade Tran Ngoc Que, Director of the National Blood Center, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee of the "Red Journey" Program 2024; leaders of departments, divisions, and units under the Vietnam Red Cross Society , and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Representing Thanh Hoa province were Comrade Dau Thanh Tung, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Head of the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign Committee; leaders of departments, agencies, organizations, and localities in the province; sponsors of the program; 109 honored collectives, families, and individuals; and over 2,000 volunteers participating in blood donation.

In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung emphasized: Over the years, the "Red Journey" program, organized in many provinces and cities nationwide, has left significant marks with many practical and effective activities. The 12th "Red Journey" program, held in Thanh Hoa from July 17th to 18th, 2024, in Thanh Hoa City, with its many meaningful activities, has contributed to a strong transformation of the voluntary blood donation movement in all agencies, units, and businesses.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed gratitude to the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion; the timely leadership and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee; the coordination of departments, agencies, organizations, and businesses; the unanimous support and participation of all sectors of the population; and the efforts of the Steering Committees for Voluntary Blood Donation at all levels in effectively implementing the voluntary blood donation movement in the province. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee warmly commended the achievements of collectives, individuals, and families who have made significant contributions to the voluntary blood donation movement; and praised the Organizing Committee of the 12th "Red Journey" in Thanh Hoa in 2024 for effectively implementing the program.

At the same time, we request that Party committees and governments at all levels; departments, agencies, organizations, units, and businesses continue to pay attention to leading and directing the work of promoting voluntary blood donation, creating conditions for healthy people to donate blood to save lives and actively participate in the voluntary blood donation movement for a healthy society.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also called on all people in the province who are in good health to participate in blood donation and to donate blood repeatedly; and to actively respond to the "Drops of Red Blood" campaign launched by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tran Ngoc Que, Director of the National Blood Center and Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee of the "Red Journey" Program 2024, affirmed: Blood is a special kind of medicine, and safe blood for patients can only be donated by healthy individuals. Ensuring a safe blood supply for emergency care and treatment is a crucial task not only for the health sector but also for the entire society.

Voluntary blood donation activities in our country have developed strongly in recent years, meeting the demand for blood and blood products for emergency and treatment of patients, and overcoming the blood shortage during the summer and Tet holidays. In 2023 alone, the whole country received over 1.58 million units of blood, the voluntary blood donation rate reached over 97%, the percentage of the population participating in blood donation reached 1.6%, and the percentage of 350ml blood donated reached 66%.

In Thanh Hoa province, voluntary blood donation has seen rapid development, with active participation from many departments, agencies, units, and a large number of people. Thanh Hoa is also one of the five provinces and cities nationwide that have fully organized all 12 editions of the "Red Journey" campaign. One of the outstanding activities of the "Red Journey" in Thanh Hoa province is the organization of events honoring collectives and individuals with excellent achievements in voluntary blood donation. This activity not only contributes to commending and honoring blood donors but also inspires and spreads the spirit of volunteerism. Through this, blood donation to save lives gradually becomes a beautiful cultural aspect of social life, a vivid testament to preserving and promoting the compassionate tradition of "loving others as oneself" of our nation.

At the opening ceremony, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Thanh Hoa province awarded certificates of merit from the Vietnam Red Cross Society, certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and certificates of commendation from the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Thanh Hoa province to collectives, families, and individuals who have achieved outstanding results in voluntary blood donation in 2023-2024.
