Opening of Dong Co Temple Festival in 2024

On the morning of April 23, at the National Monument of Dong Co Mountain and Temple, Dan Ne village, the People's Committee of Yen Tho commune (Yen Dinh) opened the Dong Co Temple Festival 2024.

The festival is held to commemorate the merits of Than Dong Co since the Hung King period. Legend has it that when King Hung led his army to defeat the enemy from the South, the army followed the mountain road to the foot of Kha Lao mountain and stayed here. At night, the king dreamed of the mountain god who asked for help from the bronze drum and the bronze hammer to help the king defeat the enemy. When the battle broke out, the sound of the drum and the sound of the sword made the enemy army scared and fled. When our army returned victorious, King Hung went to the temple to give thanks and conferred the name of Than Dong Co Dai Vuong, built a temple, cast a bronze drum, and brought a bronze horse to the temple to worship.

In 2001, Dong Co Temple was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Relic.

The festival is also held to implement the conservation work of Dong Co Temple Festival as a basis for preparing a scientific dossier to propose registration as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The festival takes place over 3 days, April 21, 22 and 23 (ie from the 13th to the 15th of the third lunar month), including the ceremony and the festival. The ceremony includes rituals such as: the announcement ceremony, the procession from Dong Co temple to Dinh Phuc and vice versa; the ceremony to ask for the spirit of Dong Co god, the incense offering ceremony...

During the festival, delegates and a large number of people and tourists enjoyed a special art program with careful preparation by local people.

In addition, there are also games, folk performances, sports competitions and displays of OCOP products, typical products of Yen Dinh district.
