The Gia Lam Railway Factory was built by the French and began operating in 1905. In 1954, after peace was restored, the factory came under the control of the revolutionary government. In 1970, the government invested in its reconstruction, with funding provided by the Polish government. The factory grounds cover more than 20.3 hectares, including nearly 5km of 1m and 1.435m gauge railway tracks leading to the workshops, connecting directly to Gia Lam station and integrating into the national railway system; 6 production workshops and an administrative building; a materials storage area; a rest area; an industrial wastewater treatment system; 10 power supply stations; internal roads; a large regulating lake that also serves as a fire-fighting facility; green spaces; and sports fields.
