On March 4th, at Casa Italia, 18 Le Phung Hieu Street, Hanoi, an exhibition of photographs titled "The Beauty of Italian Rice Agriculture" will open. The exhibition is being held to coincide with the visit to Vietnam of the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida.
"The Beauty of Italian Rice Farming" tells the history of rice cultivation in Italy through photographs. Italy is a leading rice producer in Europe, from its early days over 500 years ago to today's farming techniques and the development of new rice varieties for the future.
Every year in Italy, people can admire the "sea of checks," a landscape of rice paddies winding through large rice-growing areas, highlighting the connection between rice cultivation and environmental protection.
The exhibition also celebrates the similarities between Italy and Vietnam in cultivating this very important grain. Rice cultivation has always played a vital role for both countries, which pride themselves on their important culinary traditions, in which rice is a key ingredient in traditional dishes, from risotto to banh chung (Vietnamese sticky rice cake)...
