As reported by Thanh Nien newspaper, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha requested the Department of Education and Training and related units to investigate and clarify the case of an 8th-grade female student in Ung Hoa District being beaten by a group of classmates. Previously, a video circulated on social media showing an 8th-grade female student being beaten by a group of classmates in the classroom. The victim was repeatedly hit in the face and head, and when a male student tried to intervene, he was also beaten by the group.

The leaders of the Hanoi People's Committee have requested an investigation to clarify the case of an 8th-grade female student at Minh Duc Secondary School being assaulted by a group of students.

According to a report from the Department of Education and Training of Ung Hoa District, the incident occurred on the afternoon of May 11th in class 8A1 at Minh Duc Secondary School (Minh Duc commune, Ung Hoa district). While in class, students NHA and NMN used their hands to hit student KTV on the head and face. Seeing V. being hit, male student D. used a water bottle to shield himself. At this time, student L. saw this, thought the group was just joking, and recorded a video, sharing it on a social media group.

On May 16th, the homeroom teacher of class 8A1 was informed of the incident and requested the group of students to write a report and self-criticism. Initial verification revealed that the reason A. and N. attacked V. was impulsive, not due to animosity. The school invited the parents of the students to discuss the matter, and all three students acknowledged their mistake and promised not to repeat it. On May 19th, the incident became widely known when the video was widely circulated on social media.

Increased anxiety

Readers expressed concern over the recurring incidents of school violence. "Reading the news makes me sad and uneasy because this is a serious problem, yet there's still no effective solution. I wonder if severely punishing these cases will help the victims escape the psychological trauma? In my opinion, this situation is becoming increasingly serious. I urgently hope that educators and lawmakers will soon enact regulations to provide a basis for strict punishment; otherwise, it will not deter similar cases," commented reader Tien Hung.

Sharing the same viewpoint, commenter Ngo Duy stated: "The current situation shows that the coordination between schools and parents is not truly close, leading to many regrettable cases of school violence today. It's time to restore a pure and loving school environment instead of one rife with violence as it is now." Commenter Hai Duyen wrote: "Students nowadays are exposed to negative influences too easily, while the management and education by schools and families are not adequately ensured. Many teachers only focus on academic achievement and forget about moral training. To be honest, talent without virtue is useless."

"Many young people, due to challenges from friends or an inflated ego, act superior and bully their peers. If only they knew the consequences of their actions, which would inflict significant emotional wounds on their classmates. If students are to blame once, then the school and parents should be held ten times more accountable. More effective educational methods and sufficiently strong disciplinary measures are needed to deter such behavior," analyzed Mr. Hung Cuong.

Let's work together to prevent it.

"School violence is increasingly causing concern among parents and students. In my opinion, there are many causes, but the most important thing is how to prevent and end this situation, which must come from many sides: families should pay attention to their children, schools should educate students on life skills, and if violations occur, there should be severe measures to deter and set an example," said Long Duy, suggesting solutions.

Phuoc Tam also believes that for school violence to disappear, children must be cared for and guided from elementary school onwards. "This requires teachers to closely monitor the children, be gentle, share their feelings, and pay attention to those with unusual or aggressive behaviors. When a classmate tells the teacher that they are being bullied or mistreated, the teacher should not punish them by beating them or shame them, but rather try to persuade and reconcile them to foster a spirit of love and unity. Parents, on the other hand, must pay more attention to their children," he suggested, adding: "When spending time with your children, such as during meals or before bedtime, encourage them to share and listen. Children will confide in you about everything that happens at school and in class. Only then can we effectively combat school violence in the near future."

* In my opinion, the main cause still stems from the educational methods of schools and families. Children nowadays are easily exposed to negative influences, while moral training is still lacking in rigor. Without more practical measures, it will certainly become a serious problem. Therefore, everyone must be more decisive in preventing school violence.

Hoang Tung

* The issue of education and moral training needs to be strengthened, alongside finding strict measures to address the problem, instead of just going through the motions. Don't wait until it's too late; by the time tragic events occur, it will be too late to regret it.
