In his role as director, Meritorious Artist Thành Lộc chose to tell the story of an artist's love for their profession through a purely Vietnamese musical theater style. The unique staging techniques captivated the audience from beginning to end. With a cast of skilled actors and a script deeply ingrained in the consciousness of theater-loving audiences – "Giáng Hương - Stage at Night" – which was spectacularly "modernized" at the Thiên Đăng Stage, it can be said that Meritorious Artist Thành Lộc has added another beautiful milestone to his artistic career.

The Dai Viet New Cai Luong Theatre recently staged the Cai Luong play "The Singing Actress" (written by Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, adapted and directed by Hoa Ha), featuring performances by Meritorious Artists Que Tran and Kim Tu Long, and artists Vo Minh Lam and Nguyen Minh Truong. "The Singing Actress" tells the story of Cam Thanh, a woman facing many tragedies. With captivating staging techniques, especially in the handling of space, lighting, and scenery, the play resonated with the audience. The well-invested and carefully crafted traditional orchestra also added to the artistic effect of "The Singing Actress".

At the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Theatre (Stage 5B), the drama "Love Outside of Marriage" premiered with two initial performances on June 28th and July 2nd, receiving positive feedback from the audience. Meritorious Artist My Uyen expressed: "The drama in the socio-political style is quite selective in its audience. Most people at the box office ask the ticket seller if the play is entertaining. I think we have a responsibility to enrich the entertainment content for the community – especially for young audiences. In 'Love Outside of Marriage,' we staged the play with the motto that the audience will 'see' themselves in it."
The Hoang Thai Thanh Theatre staged "Returning the Little Fish," an adaptation of a short story by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu, directed by Ai Nhu. The opening performance, and to date, has been sold out. With its style of staging that delves deep into the characters' psychology and the setting of the Southern Vietnamese riverine region, the play possesses a lyrical quality that easily resonates with the audience, making viewers fall passionately in love with the characters.

This year, the Chi Linh - Van Ha stage features the traditional Vietnamese opera "Trung Liet Duong Gia Tuong" (written by Nguyen Quang Nha, directed by Chi Linh) performed at the Tran Huu Trang Theater. Those involved believe that "Trung Liet Duong Gia Tuong" is skillfully staged, with a fast pace that touches the audience's emotions. Director Chi Linh's talent is further recognized in creating opportunities for the young actors, allowing them to showcase their dance, singing, and deeply embody the characters' psychology.
Preserving family values
The musical "Bong Canh Co" (Crane's Wings) marks the revival of Hong Van Theatre after a period of inactivity. Based on a script by composer and Meritorious Artist Bac Son, the play is directed by Le Nguyen Tuan Anh and has Minh Vy as music director.
The play's plot revolves around the tragic love story between Tư Liễu (Cẩm Ly), a poor girl, and Hai Nông (Minh Luân), the eldest son of a wealthy family. Conflict arises when Mrs. Ba Cải (Thanh Thủy) insists on arranging a marriage for Hai Nông with a rich woman, leaving Tư Liễu's son, Bông Cánh Cò (Tuấn Dũng), to grow up without a father.
The play gradually unfolds with many twists and turns, each situation and emotion expressed through songs by composer Bac Son. This novel experiment has created a strong appeal for Hong Van Theatre and audiences are eager to buy tickets because they enjoy watching their favorite actors sing live songs that have touched the hearts of generations of music lovers, such as: "Em di tren co non" (I Walk on the Young Grass), "Bong bi vang" (Yellow Pumpkin Flower), "Con thuong rau dang moc sau he" (Still Loving the Bitter Herbs Growing Behind the House), "Thang may em ve" (Which Month Will You Return?)...

"Bong Canh Co" not only touches the audience with its messages about preserving family values, but also makes them laugh heartily through witty and lively comedic scenes from the artists of Hong Van Theatre.
The play "Mother Singing on the Street" by author and director Huynh Lap (with People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau as artistic consultant) performed at the Truong Hung Minh Theater also attracted public attention with the combination of three actors: Viet Huong, Minh Nhi, and Huynh Lap.
What's remarkable about "The Street Singer" is that it was originally performed on a small stage in a café with 70 seats. Now, it's being brought to a larger stage with a capacity of up to 400 people and continues to captivate audiences.
