(QNO) - In the mountainous district of Bac Tra My, young Party members, with their youthful energy, enthusiasm, and exemplary spirit, are continuously contributing to the prosperity of this highland region.
The spring sunshine burst forth after days of relentless winter rain. Mr. Nguyen Van Buc, a healthcare worker, and Principal Phan Duy Bien visited the family of student Dinh Bao Tram (3rd grade, Tra Ka Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School). Tram's mother has passed away, and her father is raising the two younger siblings and supporting their education…
“Every month, Mr. Bien and I set aside a portion of our salaries and appeal to philanthropists for additional support. Sometimes we buy notebooks, sometimes clothes, sometimes fish sauce, salt, rice, instant noodles… and bring them to Tram's family. Our main focus is to encourage them; we advise the parents to work hard so that Tram and her sister can go to school properly,” – Mr. Buc shared, expressing his sympathy for the single father raising his children in such difficult circumstances, and explaining his frequent visits here…

To somewhat change the current situation, the Party Cell of Tra Ka Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School (Tra Ka Commune Party Committee), with 18 Party members (including 15 young members), initiated the "For Young Sprouts" model. After more than half a year of operation, the model has initially shown effectiveness. Students who have received support and guidance from Party members have made more progress in their studies, and their lives have gradually become more stable. The Party Cell of Tra Ka Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School was awarded by the Bac Tra My District Party Committee for its "Skilled Mass Mobilization" in 2024.
Similarly, in a spirit of solidarity for the poor, the Party branch of Ba Huong village (Tra Dong commune Party committee) launched the model "Saving money in piggy banks for the poor to celebrate Tet".
Following the success of two successful community mobilization models, "Intercropping peanuts on cassava land" and "Livestock feed storage houses," the Ba Huong village Party branch, with its 12 members, aspired to implement a model for social welfare. As soon as the idea of raising pigs was initiated, the young Party members of the branch enthusiastically encouraged villagers to participate in raising pigs in their piggy banks.
Responding enthusiastically, regularly feeding the piggy bank, and actively encouraging people to support the Party branch's piggy bank initiative, young Party member Bui Thi Bich Sen expressed: “The entire village has 23 poor households out of 191 households. As a Party member, I am aware of my responsibility towards the development of my hometown and that these meaningful activities need to be spread. It's simply saving a little money, but it can somehow help those in need.”
The sound of drums and gongs is a cultural feature of the Co people. It has become legendary, an integral part of the identity of the people in the majestic Truong Son mountain range. Since ancient times, the indigenous people in the Tra Nu mountain region have faced great difficulties in cultivating rice. Therefore, at the end of October, when the rice is ready for harvest, the villagers organize festivals to express gratitude to the mountain and rice gods. The sound of drums and gongs resonates throughout the mountains and forests, harmonizing with the skillful dances and graceful beauty of the Co women, signifying the end of a season of abundance and happiness.
With the explosion of the information age, the younger generation is gradually becoming indifferent to national cultural identity. In villages 1 and 2 (Tra Nu commune), the sounds of drums and gongs played by the village elders are becoming increasingly rare…
Focusing on building a core generation of young artisans to serve as successors in preserving, promoting, and integrating ethnic culture, the Co Youth Gong Club was established in March 2024. Under the management of the Commune People's Committee, the club is implemented and increasingly developed by the Tra Nu Commune Youth Union.
After nearly a year of operation, the club has grown from 22 members to 30 (70% of whom are Party members). The club not only brings together outstanding young people passionate about art, but also encourages participation from children as young as 5-6 years old.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong (90 years old) and other village elders and senior citizens knowledgeable about gong culture are always ready to teach the younger generation of the Co people. "My hands and feet are trembling, I can't dance anymore. But we must preserve our culture. Whatever the children don't know or need, we teach them," said Mrs. Phuong.
Despite being the breadwinner of a rather struggling family with elderly parents and two young children, Nguyen Van Bua (born in 1992, a Party member of the Party branch in Hamlet 1, Tra Nu Commune) - the leader of the drum and gong group - has never missed a single meeting. Bua said: “As a Party member, I must be a pioneer. It's not enough to just establish a club and then abandon it; I must be dedicated and set an example for the children, instilling discipline in their training and fostering an understanding of the value of our national culture.”

Since his high school years, Mr. Luu Van The (Thanh Truoc village, Tra Dong commune) has harbored a dream of developing unique products like raising wild bamboo rats. “I asked acquaintances, searched online, or joined youth groups to learn about bamboo rat farming models. I even tried raising a pair of bamboo rats to thoroughly understand their living conditions, habits, reproduction, diet, prices, and market… After transferring from managing protective forests in Tra Kot to become the Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Tra Dong commune, I started realizing my dream,” Mr. The said.
In 2022, investing 70 million VND to build a 50m2 farm, Mr. The raised 20 pairs of bamboo rats. The rats' food comes from local plants such as bamboo, reeds, corn, and wood. Besides the breeding stock from his own farm, he also imports breeding stock from larger farms in Tra My town. Through the development of his farming operation, Mr. The now owns nearly 100 rats, including 20 breeding pairs.
In 2024, the Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Tra Dong commune sold 30 meat-producing bamboo rats and 10 breeding pairs. The meat-producing bamboo rats, raised for 12-15 months to reach 1.3-1.6 kg each, were delicious, lean, and had firm skin, selling for 500,000 VND/kg. The breeding bamboo rats, weighing approximately 500-700 grams each, sold for 900,000 VND per pair. He sold them to traders in Tien Phuoc district and Tam Ky city.

Besides raising native bamboo rats, the young man from Tra Dong commune is also developing his garden economy . By registering to plant 150 bamboo trees, Mr. The hopes to expand the cultivation of this local plant variety to serve the OCOP (One Commune One Product) products of his hometown.
Not only is Luu Van The an energetic Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union, but he is also a prime example of someone who has risen above challenges in economic development. His effective model of raising bamboo rats and cultivating native bamboo species is the result of his efforts, aiming for distinctive local products.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Linh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Dong Commune
Also starting from raising local livestock, Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung (Duong Dong village, Tra Duong commune) owns two civet farms with nearly 1,000 cages. To ensure a reliable food source for raising civets, Mr. Dung grows bananas and raises fish. In addition, he also buys bananas, including poor-quality ones, from local people.
Starting with an investment of 100 million VND to build cages and raise 6 civets in 2021, his market has now expanded to restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, and Hanoi. Selling at 1.8 million VND/kg to restaurants and 1.7 million VND/kg to traders, Mr. Dung expects to earn over 250 million VND in profit from civet farming in 2024.
Civets are wild animals, therefore, raising them requires registration at the one-stop service center of the commune, ward, or town. Civets begin reproducing after 2 months of being raised, with each litter containing 2-5 offspring. A female civet gives birth 2-3 times a year. These animals can be sold after 9 months of care, with an average weight of 3-4 kg per animal.
"I'm always ready to collaborate and support those with similar ideas for civet farming by providing breeding stock, farming techniques, and product markets. This year, I will utilize my land and purchase more to expand the scale of my civet farm," said Mr. Dung.

According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Bac Tra My District Party Committee, the model of effective mass mobilization in Bac Tra My district has had a positive ripple effect and has been implemented effectively in all fields, from economy, culture, society, security, national defense, and especially Party building. These effective mass mobilization models, led by young Party members, have contributed significantly to the economic development of Bac Tra My district.
Young Party members born in villages, who join the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam and always strive for the development of their villages and the Party, are the pillars that preserve local culture and build and develop the locality and the country, making it increasingly prosperous and civilized.
