Inauguration of the project to upgrade Tho Quang fishing port, the largest fishing center in the Central region

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Da Nang City to organize the inauguration ceremony of the Tho Quang fishing port upgrade and expansion project phase 2 (referred to as the project).

This is one of two projects celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Agriculture and Environment sector.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Nam Hung said this is a national key project in the field of aquaculture, which has received attention and investment support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for Da Nang City.

Tho Quang fishing port is currently the largest fishing center in the Central region, a safe place for hundreds of thousands of fishing boats to anchor and take shelter from storms every year, contributing to ensuring the safety of fishermen's lives and property.

At the same time, it is an important focal point for tracing the origin of exploited aquatic products, meeting the requirements of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which Vietnam is striving to overcome to remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC).

"The project not only has economic value, but also has profound social and humanistic significance, contributing to the modernization of fisheries infrastructure, ensuring storm shelter safety, developing a sustainable seafood value chain, and affirming the role of Da Nang as a fisheries logistics service center in the Central region," Mr. Hung affirmed.

Da Nang leaders pledged to direct management and exploitation units to use the project effectively, in accordance with investment objectives, and to regularly maintain and repair it, maximizing the function of the fishing port in serving fishermen, developing the marine economy, protecting the environment and the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

At the same time, I hope the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will continue to pay attention and support Da Nang in investing in completing fisheries infrastructure, fishing port systems, and storm shelters, contributing to the whole country's successful implementation of the goal of sustainable fisheries development and international integration.

Mr. Pham Quang Toan, Deputy Director of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), said that Tho Quang fishing port was approved by the Prime Minister as a dynamic fishing port belonging to the large fishing center of Da Nang.

"The completion of Tho Quang fishing port also contributes to implementing solutions to prevent and combat IUU, improve transparency and traceability of aquatic products, meet EC recommendations and aim to remove the IUU yellow card, while creating favorable conditions for fishermen to confidently go offshore," said Mr. Toan.

Mr. Toan affirmed that the Ministry will continue to coordinate with Da Nang city to complete the synchronous fisheries system, apply digital transformation in fisheries management, build a data center and traceability, aiming to develop Tho Quang fishing port into a model, modern and internationally integrated port.

At the same time, it is recommended that Da Nang city continue to pay attention to investment, improve the efficiency of port management and operation, strengthen coordination in fishing vessel management, waste and wastewater treatment, and protect the marine environment.

The project has a total investment of 250 billion VND, invested by the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Traffic and Agricultural Works in Da Nang, meeting the criteria of a type 1 fishing port (a dynamic fishing port belonging to the large fishing center in Da Nang) combined with a regional storm shelter anchorage area to ensure safe anchorage and synchronized fishing logistics services.

The investment scale includes upgrading and renovating piers 1 and 3, connecting to piers 2 (completed in phase 1). Renovating the seafood trading area, water supply and drainage system, waste treatment, waterproofing, and market floor.

Repairing the embankment of the boat lock and internal traffic roads. Constructing a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 300m³/day and night, meeting QCVN 11:2015/BTNMT standards.

Complete auxiliary infrastructure, trees, lighting, fire protection, fences and public toilets.
