The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Da Nang City People's Committee , organized the inauguration ceremony for the Tho Quang fishing port upgrade and expansion project, phase 2 (referred to as the project).

This is one of two projects commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Agriculture and Environment sector.

According to Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, this is a key national project in the field of fisheries, which has received attention and investment support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for Da Nang City.

Tho Quang fishing port is currently the largest fishing center in the Central region, providing a safe haven for hundreds of thousands of fishing vessels to anchor and take shelter from storms each year, contributing to ensuring the safety of lives and property for fishermen.

It also serves as a crucial hub for tracing the origin of harvested seafood, meeting the requirements for combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, which Vietnam is striving to address in order to lift the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card."

"The project not only has economic value, but also profound social and humanitarian significance, contributing to the modernization of fisheries infrastructure, ensuring storm shelter safety, developing a sustainable aquatic product value chain, and affirming Da Nang's role as the fisheries logistics service center of the Central region," Mr. Hung affirmed.

Da Nang leaders pledged to direct the units managing and operating the facilities to use them effectively, in accordance with investment objectives, and to maintain and repair them regularly, maximizing the functionality of the fishing port in serving fishermen, developing the marine economy, protecting the environment, and safeguarding the sacred sovereignty of the nation's sea and islands.

At the same time, we hope that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will continue to pay attention to and support Da Nang in investing in and completing the fisheries infrastructure, fishing port system, and storm shelter areas, contributing to the successful achievement of the national goal of sustainable fisheries development and international integration.

Mr. Pham Quang Toan, Deputy Director of the Fisheries and Fisheries Inspection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), said that Tho Quang fishing port has been approved by the Prime Minister as a key fishing port within the large Da Nang fishing center.

"The completion of Tho Quang fishing port also contributes to implementing solutions to prevent and combat IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing, enhancing transparency and traceability of seafood, meeting EC recommendations and aiming to lift the IUU yellow card, while creating favorable conditions for fishermen to confidently go out to sea," Mr. Toan said.

Mr. Toan affirmed that the Ministry will continue to coordinate with Da Nang city to complete a synchronized fisheries system, apply digital transformation in fisheries management, build a data center and traceability system, aiming to develop Tho Quang fishing port into a model, modern and internationally integrated port.

At the same time, it was suggested that Da Nang city continue to pay attention to investing in and improving the efficiency of port management and operation, strengthening coordination in managing fishing vessels, handling waste and wastewater, and protecting the marine environment.

The project, with a total investment of 250 billion VND, is managed by the Da Nang Investment and Construction Project Management Board for Transportation and Agriculture Projects. It meets the criteria of a Class 1 fishing port (a dynamic fishing port belonging to the major fishing center of Da Nang) combined with a regional-level storm shelter and anchorage area, ensuring safe anchorage and integrated fishing logistics services.

The investment scope includes upgrading and renovating piers No. 1 and No. 3, connecting them to pier No. 2 (completed in phase 1). It also includes renovating the seafood trading area, water supply and drainage systems, waste treatment, waterproofing, and market floor.

Repairing the embankment of the harbor and internal roads. Constructing a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 300 m³/day, meeting the standards of QCVN 11:2015/BTNMT.

Complete the supporting infrastructure, including landscaping, lighting, fire protection, fencing, and public restrooms.
