When faced with difficulties, adapt!

The match against the Philippines at 8 PM on December 18th will be a tough challenge for the Vietnamese team. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his players only had two days to prepare after a long journey.

At the same time, the entire team will be playing on the artificial turf of the host country, the Philippines. With its hard surface, the bounce speed, and the ball roll being very different from natural grass, the Vietnamese team needs to adapt and adjust their playing style accordingly for the match at Rizal Memorial.

"The artificial turf surface is very hard, harder than natural grass. Experienced players are used to artificial turf, but some players haven't adapted yet. That's a challenge for the Vietnamese team," striker Bui Vi Hao shared at the pre-match press conference. "However, we will prepare thoroughly and adapt as best as we can for the match against the Philippines."

Coach Kim Sang-sik also emphasized that the coaching staff has a plan to help the players get used to the rhythm of playing on artificial turf.

Young striker Vi Hao was given a starting spot in the opening match against Laos, but then sat on the bench in the clash against Indonesia. Born in 2003, Vi Hao only played for the Vietnam U23 team in May, after which he was called up to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim Sang-sik and given a chance to prove himself.

Vi Hao scored against Nam Dinh FC in a closed-door friendly match in November. A month earlier, the young striker from Binh Duong also scored against India, securing a 1-1 draw for the Vietnamese national team.

Vi Hao is one of the rare U.23 players (along with Van Khang and Trung Kien) who has remained in the national team, amidst a host of experienced senior players. In the match against the Philippines, the 21-year-old striker may be given another opportunity.
