The vacant land along Nguyen Sinh Sac Street (residential area 23, Chon Tam 2G residential area, Hoa Khanh ward) used to be a dumping ground for household waste and solid debris, causing unsightly conditions and pollution. It was also a hotspot for illegal dumping. Taking advantage of the cover of darkness, many individuals secretly used handcarts to transport rubble, debris, and other construction waste to illegally dump it, marring the area and causing public outrage.
Ms. Huynh Thi Ngoc Anh, a resident of residential group 23, said that during meetings with voters, residents have repeatedly requested the local government to find solutions to improve the area in order to end the pollution and create a clean, beautiful landscape for the residential area.
Driven by this legitimate desire, the Women's Union of Hoa Khanh Ward conducted a field survey and selected the land to implement the model "Green Branch - transforming vacant land into flower gardens, green spaces, and clean vegetable gardens" associated with "Women's self-managed road sections, flower-filled streets". To implement the model, the union hired machinery and excavators to level and improve the ground, covering an area of approximately 350m2; women members collected waste, removed leftover materials, and restored the ground to a clean and tidy state.
Recently, in response to World Environment Day, the Women's Union of the ward, along with local leaders, members, and residents, organized a ceremony to launch the model. At the event, nearly 120 bougainvillea plants and 10 vegetable beds were planted. The project was handed over to the Chơn Tâm 2G Women's Association for management and care.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Head of the Chon Tam 2G Women's Association, said that after taking over the area, the association assigned members to regularly water and care for the trees and vegetable beds to maintain the landscape. In addition, the association coordinated with the Party Committee and the residential area's Party branch to strengthen supervision, remind residents, and promptly detect cases of illegal dumping of waste, debris, and rubble to prevent recurrence.
"We also suggest that the Women's Union of the ward continue to pay attention to investing in an automatic irrigation system, connecting to the tap water source to facilitate tree care and ensure the project's long-term effectiveness," Ms. Hue said.
According to Ms. Duong Thi My Vinh, President of the Women's Union of Hoa Khanh Ward, the implementation of the model in residential area 23 is a practical activity aimed at mobilizing female cadres, members, and the people to participate in improving urban landscapes, protecting the living environment, and raising community awareness. The model has received the approval and high praise of the local Party committee and government, as well as the positive response of the people. In the coming time, the union will coordinate with the government to survey more vacant land in Hoa Minh and Hoa Son areas to continue implementing the model. From 2027 and in the following years, the program will be expanded to suitable branches in the area.
