Not nominated as head coach

According to this information, Mr. Duong Vi Khoa - Head Coach of the Vietnam eSports team - who has accompanied the eSports team for the past 15 years, was registered by the Vietnam Electronic Entertainment Sports Association (VIRESA) as Head Coach of the Vietnam eSports team in the list sent to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training for approval by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. But for some unknown reason, in the final decision, Mr. Khoa's name suddenly "disappeared".

In fact, according to Van Hoa's investigation, in the official dispatch No. 16.A/CV-DTGT, dated March 15, 2023, of the Vietnam Recreational Electronic Sports Association sent to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to report on the preparation work and proposals of the Vietnam Recreational Electronic Sports Association for the 32nd SEA Games, regarding the composition of the eSports team, Mr. Duong Vi Khoa's name was registered as an officer, not as the head coach of the Vietnam eSports team. In addition, this list also includes Mr. Ngo Minh Tri, who is responsible for supporting athlete management and providing professional advice for PUBG, Mobile League of Legends, and VALORANT.

The report also states that Vietnamese eSports will register to participate in 7/9 events including: CrossFire (team), PUBG Mobile (individual), PUBG Mobile (team), Mobile Legends (Bang Bang male team), Mobile Legends (Bang Bang female team), League of Legends and VALORANT (team). In each event, there are individuals registered as coaches such as: Coach Nguyen Viet Thanh, Coach Nguyen Hong Thang, Coach Nguyen Xuan Tuan, Coach Quach Dang Phi...

This is also completely consistent with the characteristics of eSports today, because each team will be managed by the game producer and send members to attend the Congress. In this report, the Vietnam Entertainment E-Sports Association also stated that, regarding professional work and force preparation, the Association has discussed and agreed with domestic publishers to organize the selection work, ensuring the requirements on progress and quality of the selection work. Thereby, it is agreed to select and propose a list of national teams to compete in eSports events at the 32nd SEA Games, and send it to the Vietnam Olympic Committee to complete the procedures according to regulations. Notably, in the list of the Vietnamese e-sports delegation attending the Congress, Mr. Duong Vi Khoa will attend the 32nd SEA Games as an officer.

On March 20, 2023, the Vietnam E-Sports Entertainment Association issued Official Letter No. 20/CV-DTGT on the official list of athletes registered for the 32nd SEA Games, signed by General Secretary Do Viet Hung. Accordingly, the eSports team consists of 53 members, of which Mr. Duong Vi Khoa is also not registered as the head coach of the eSports team, in all competition events, the titles are registered for other coaches.

Thus, it can be confirmed that the list sent by the Vietnam E-Sports Entertainment Association does not list Mr. Duong Vi Khoa as the head coach. Therefore, it is not true that Mr. Khoa was registered by the Association as the head coach and then "disappeared" from the official list of the Vietnam Sports Delegation, as a source reported.

The Association does not propose to reward Mr. Duong Vi Khoa.

Regarding Mr. Duong Vi Khoa, there is also information that Mr. Khoa is the head coach of the eSports team at the 31st SEA Games. However, after nearly a year since the Games ended, all coaches and athletes of the eSports team have received medal bonuses according to the State's regulations from the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, but Mr. Khoa is the only one who has not received any money.

Regarding this, on May 27, 2022, the Vietnam E-Sports Association issued Official Letter No. 66/DTGT-VP on confirming the list of direct coaches and grassroots coaches of eSports at the 31st SEA Games as a basis for rewards. Accordingly, the E-Sports Association confirmed the list of grassroots coaches and direct coaches of eSports who achieved achievements at the 31st SEA Games. There are 7 coaches nominated in this list: Vo Hoang Huy, Tran Minh Khoi, Phan Huy Phong, Nguyen Xuan Tuan, Bui Minh Quan, Nguyen Anh Tu, Nguyen Thac Hai Dang.

On May 30, 2022, the governing bodies of the competitions also sent official dispatches confirming the coaches who achieved the proposed rewards at the 31st SEA Games. That is, Vietnam E-Sports and Entertainment Joint Stock Company confirmed 3 coaches: Vo Hoang Huy, Phan Huy Phong, Tran Minh Khoi. VNG Joint Stock Company confirmed 2 grassroots coaches who directly achieved the rewards at the Games, Nguyen Xuan Tuan and Bui Minh Quan; VTC Online Media Joint Stock Company also sent official dispatches confirming 2 coaches Nguyen Anh Tu and Nguyen Thac Hai Dang as grassroots coaches and directly achieved the rewards at the 31st SEA Games. In these official dispatches, Mr. Duong Vi Khoa was not nominated. Therefore, there is no basis for the emulation and rewards department of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to propose rewards for Mr. Duong Vi Khoa.

Responding to Culture, General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet said that when making a list of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to attend the 32nd SEA Games to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for decision, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training had to carry out the process of asking for opinions from professional units. The composition of the Delegation was carefully reviewed by the leaders in charge of high-performance sports and professional departments, ensuring compliance with the regulations of the Organizing Committee of the Games as well as professional selection processes.
