The 2024-2025 Hai Ba Trung District's Grade 9 Excellent Student Selection Exam took place on October 29th at Ngo Quyen Secondary School, with the participation of 698 students from 18 public and private secondary schools in the district.
Students took the exam in 9 subjects: literature, mathematics, history and geography, civics, natural science , computer science, English, French, and Japanese; of which, 78 students took the mathematics exam.
Regarding the suspected leak of the 9th grade math exam for gifted students, following reports that it resembled the review questions used by students in another district, the Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training has promptly summoned responsible members to investigate and verify the matter.
The review and verification results show that the process of constructing the district-level gifted student exam questions for 9th grade cultural subjects in the 2024-2025 school year, in general subjects and mathematics in particular, was carried out in accordance with regulations; there was no leak of exam questions; and no individual or department was found to have leaked information about the exam questions.
Regarding the process of creating exam questions for gifted 9th-grade students in general, and mathematics in particular, the Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training stated that it has invited experienced experts in training and creating exam questions for gifted students from educational institutions outside the district to assist in creating exam questions according to the subject, exam matrix, and curriculum scope that the Department has developed. The Department also invited experts and key teachers to collaborate in reviewing the exam questions to ensure accuracy and meet requirements.
After the exam paper compilation process is complete, all exam papers are sealed and transferred to the head of the exam paper drafting committee. They are then handed over to the printing and copying committee and the invigilation committee to organize the exam. These steps are carried out rigorously, following the correct procedures and maintaining confidentiality as required by regulations by the District Department of Education and Training. All members participating in the committees are appointed and assigned tasks by the Head of the District Department of Education and Training. Members of these committees commit to being responsible for the accuracy and confidentiality of the exam.
In Hai Ba Trung district, the teachers invited to create the math exam questions are from other districts and do not directly teach review classes in Hai Ba Trung district. Besides creating the questions, these teachers also assist the Department in developing the review program when forming the district team for the city-level competition.
According to the planned schedule, the results of the 9th grade district-level excellent student competition will be announced on November 11, 2024. To ensure objectivity, fairness, and seriousness in the competition, the Hai Ba Trung District Department of Education and Training will continue to gather information and verify the incident; at the same time, it will strengthen inspection and supervision of the grading process as well as other stages. If any errors are found, the Department will handle them seriously, in accordance with regulations, and ensure the best interests of the students participating in the competition.
