"Moving to Real Madrid someday? No way. There's no chance. Real Madrid, no," Lamine Yamal stated emphatically in a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo (Spain).
At the age of 17, Lamine Yamal (right) had already surpassed his seniors Messi and Ronaldo of the same age.
Lamine Yamal is heavily influenced by the legendary Messi, as they are both among the most outstanding players of the Catalan team, past and present, and both come from Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy.
Historically, many outstanding Barcelona players have moved to rival club Real Madrid. The most notable example is former Portuguese star Luis Figo, who directly transferred from Barcelona to Real Madrid in the 2000s, creating one of the most intense rivalries in Spanish football history. Another example is former Brazilian star Ronaldo, who also played for Barcelona before moving to Inter Milan and then Real Madrid around the same time.
However, very few Barcelona players who rose to fame and emerged from the La Masia academy have moved to Real Madrid. Messi is the most prominent example. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez once revealed that he had considered signing Messi during his time at Barcelona, but later abandoned the idea, realizing it was impossible.
The latest player to fall into this category is Lamine Yamal. Spanish media have speculated on the possibility that Real Madrid might revert to their Messi era, which was to recruit a gem from the La Masia academy to assert their strength.
Lamine Yamal declared: 'There's no way I'll play for Real Madrid'
"This will definitely never happen (a move to Real Madrid)," Lamine Yamal asserted. The 17-year-old implicitly confirmed the firm stance of his senior teammate Messi, who has no intention of leaving Barcelona for Real Madrid.
"I owe Barcelona everything. Everything here is perfect and I am very happy. The welcome, the affection from the fans and my teammates, these things are priceless," Lamine Yamal expressed.
Lamine Yamal also recalled PSG's offer of over €200 million last summer, emphasizing his unwillingness to leave Barcelona and his potential to spend his entire career there: "PSG's offer? Personally, I haven't received any. But even if they contacted someone in my group, they would have received a firm no. I have a contract, I don't think I'll go to another club. I love Barcelona."
Lamine Yamal currently has a contract with Barcelona until June 2026 with a release clause of up to €1 billion. The Catalan club is preparing to offer him a new contract in July of this year when he turns 18.
"There's absolutely no doubt about it, I'm a huge Barcelona fan. I really want to stay at this club. If both sides want something to happen, then it will happen. I owe Barcelona everything," Lamine Yamal emphasized.
