Connecting proud memories

The song "The Nation's Complete Joy" by composer Hoang Ha is an indelible mark in the history of Vietnamese music. Composed on the night of April 26, 1975, the song was born in the fervent atmosphere of hope for the entire nation. Composer Hoang Ha once shared that from mid-April 1975, Hanoi became more bustling than ever. Everyone followed the developments of the war. There were even days when he didn't go home, staying at the Voice of Vietnam radio station to get the fastest and most complete updates.

Upon hearing the news that our troops were advancing straight towards Saigon, composer Hoang Ha's emotions surged, prompting him to write deeply moving melodies that perfectly captured the boundless happiness of the day of national reunification drawing near: “The triumphant celebration fills the country with excitement / We want to fly up and gaze in awe at the majestic mountains and rivers / We want to shout and sing for all eternity about Vietnam / Our heroic homeland.”

Every April, the song "The Nation's Complete Joy" resonates, becoming a sacred musical symbol, indispensable in the Vietnamese psyche. For half a century, the song has not only depicted the momentous historical moment when the country was reunified, but also served as a strong emotional bond, connecting the heroic memories of the past with the joy of the present. The powerful and expressive voices of famous artists and singers such as Ta Minh Tam, Trong Tan, Tung Duong, Dang Duong, etc., have become a special "catalyst," allowing these melodies and lyrics to deeply penetrate the hearts of countless generations of listeners.

Listening again to the lyrics, "We march amidst countless golden stars, a forest of flags fluttering across the land," we feel as if we are reliving a glorious historical moment of our nation. The image of the liberation army entering Saigon amidst the resounding cheers of the people, the red flag with a golden star flying atop the Independence Palace, has become an immortal symbol of the aspiration for independence, freedom, and national unity.

The epic song will resound forever.

“The lantern festival, with its smiling faces, is a wonderfully vibrant flower of life/ Beautiful faith forever, the Fatherland for all eternity/ The entire unified land/ Radiant Vietnam.” These simple lyrics encapsulate the extraordinary strength of unity of the Vietnamese people. After so many years of division, North and South are united, the country brought together as one. This joy of reunification is not just the joy of a day of victory, but also an affirmation of the strength of patriotism, the will for independence, and the aspiration for peace of the entire nation.

“In the hearts of every Vietnamese person, there is a surge of boundless gratitude towards those who created this glorious chapter in history. “The Nation's Complete Joy” is not just a song; it is a historical witness, an epic about the indomitable and resilient spirit of the Vietnamese people. It is also a belief in a strong and prosperous Vietnam in the future,” shared Ms. Doan Thi Phuong (68 years old, retired official, My Phuoc ward, Long Xuyen city).

“On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, listening to the song “The Nation's Complete Joy,” I felt more deeply than ever the value of independence, freedom, and unity. My pride in a heroic, resilient, and compassionate Vietnam grew even stronger. The song serves as a reminder of the responsibility of today's generation in preserving and promoting the achievements of the revolution, building a stronger, more prosperous, and happier Vietnam. The melody of “The Nation's Complete Joy” will forever resonate, giving strength and faith to every Vietnamese person on the path of building and protecting the Fatherland,” expressed Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh (My Quy Ward, Long Xuyen City).

Amidst the nationwide preparations to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam, listening to the song "The Nation's Complete Joy," Mr. Vuong Trong Tre (a veteran) felt tears welling up in his eyes. "So many memories of a time of war and fire, those arduous yet heroic days, flooded back into my mind. The lyrics, 'We march amidst countless golden stars...' recreate the image of the liberation army of yesteryear, advancing towards Saigon amidst a sea of flags and flowers and the cheers of the people," Mr. Tre reminisced.

Every time he hears the song, he is moved to remember his fallen comrades, who silently sacrificed themselves so that the country could be united. The melody of the song is both a joy of victory and a profound gratitude to those who contributed to the golden history of the nation, so that today they can witness a peaceful, unified, and increasingly prosperous country. Pride and emotion blend together, creating a poignant and sacred moment in the heart of the former soldier.

“We, the generation born and raised in peace, today listen to the triumphant song, and we understand even more deeply the sacred value of independence and freedom that our ancestors shed so much blood to regain. The image of the resilient and indomitable soldiers of Uncle Ho, with their spirit of ‘fighting to the death for the Fatherland,’ has become an endless source of strength and inspiration for today’s youth. We pledge to continue this glorious tradition, diligently studying, training, and dedicating our talents and enthusiasm to building a more prosperous Vietnam, worthy of the great sacrifices of previous generations,” said Tran Thanh Thuy (a student at An Giang University), visibly moved.
