Connecting proud memories
The song “The Country is Full of Joy” by musician Hoang Ha is an unforgettable mark in the history of Vietnamese music. Composed on the night of April 26, 1975, the song was born in a seething atmosphere full of hope for the whole nation. Musician Hoang Ha once shared that from mid-April 1975, Hanoi became more bustling than ever. Everyone followed the developments of the war. There were even days when he did not return home, but stayed at the Voice of Vietnam Radio , to be able to update the news as quickly and fully as possible.
When hearing the news that our army was advancing straight to Saigon, musician Hoang Ha's emotions surged strongly, urging him to write touching melodies, fully depicting the boundless happiness when the day of national reunification was very near: "The festival of total victory excites the country/ I want to fly up to see the majestic mountains and rivers/ I want to sing loudly forever the song of Vietnam/ The heroic Fatherland".

Every April, the song “The Country is Full of Joy” resonates, becoming a sacred musical symbol, indispensable in the minds of Vietnamese people. For half a century, the song has not only depicted the important historical moment when the country was reunited, but also a strong emotional bond, connecting the heroic memories of the past with the joy of the present. The powerful, emotional voices of famous artists and singers such as Ta Minh Tam, Trong Tan, Tung Duong, Dang Duong… have become special “catalysts”, bringing those melodies and lyrics deep into the hearts of many generations of listeners.
Listening to the lyrics “We walk in the light of thousands of yellow stars, the forest of flags fluttering across the sky”, we seem to relive the heroic historical moment of the nation. The image of the liberation army entering Saigon amidst the resounding cheers of the people, the red flag with a yellow star fluttering on the roof of the Independence Palace became an immortal symbol of the aspiration for independence, freedom and national unity.

That joy of unification is not only the joy of a day of victory, but also an affirmation of the strength of patriotism, the will for independence, and the desire for peace of the entire nation.

The pride in a heroic, resilient and compassionate Vietnam grows stronger in my heart. The song is like a reminder of the responsibility of today's generation in preserving and promoting the achievements of the revolution, building Vietnam to be increasingly rich, prosperous and happy. In the atmosphere of the whole country preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, listening to the song “The Country is Full of Joy”, Mr. Vuong Trong Tre (a veteran member)’s eyes welled up with tears. “So many memories of the time of fire and smoke, the difficult but heroic days came flooding back to my mind. The lyrics “We go in the thousands of golden stars…” recreated the image of the liberation army of the past, marching towards Saigon amidst the forest of flags and flowers and the cheers of the people” - Mr. Tre recalled.
Every time he heard the song, he was moved to remember his fallen comrades, who sacrificed silently to unite the country. The song's melody was both the joy of victory and deep gratitude to those who contributed to the nation's golden history, so that today they could witness a peaceful, unified and increasingly developing country. Pride and emotion blended together, creating a quiet, sacred moment in the hearts of the soldiers of the past.
