Agricultural extension in a new context

Within the integrated ecological space of marine and forest areas, the Lam Dong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has been strengthening coordination with commune-level authorities to implement programs and projects, build demonstration models, and transfer scientific and technical advancements into production, thereby improving the effectiveness of community agricultural extension groups.

Scaling up the organic and circular model.

From July 2025 to the present, the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has been working alongside farmers to implement many new technological processes related to crop and livestock breeding, applying organic and circular farming methods to adapt to climate change, biosafety in livestock farming, environmental protection, and linking production with consumption markets through value chain linkages.

Accordingly, the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has demonstrated "footprint-free fields" models for producing rice and durian according to VietGAP standards and equivalent, applying intensive cultivation technology of the purebred Huong Chau 6 rice variety. The cumulative area of dragon fruit produced under VietGAP standards throughout the province has reached 8,800 hectares. In addition, many intensive cultivation models following organic farming methods have been demonstrated for milk fruit, jackfruit, passion fruit, developing concentrated coffee cultivation areas; converting to growing strawberries, climbing beans, and new tomato varieties to improve livelihoods for ethnic minority communities; and linking production and consumption of mini Japanese pumpkins, boxer tomatoes, and red-fleshed dragon fruit.

In addition, the center has also developed many other effective models such as: intensive coffee cultivation adapted to climate change; cultivation of red-flowered trees; application of new technologies using agricultural by-products to dry macadamia nuts; replanting new Arabica coffee varieties with high yield, quality, and disease resistance; and application of advanced solutions for processing vegetables and fruits. In the livestock sector, the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has replicated significant models such as: raising commercial Grimaud ducks for meat; raising Egyptian chickens for recirculating egg production using calcium worms; raising whitefish in the sea using HDPE circular cages; raising catfish in cage farms combined with experiential tourism; intensive farming of tilapia in ponds and lakes; and raising snakehead fish in cage farms. Particularly, with the national agricultural extension program, typical projects implemented by the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center include: linking organic tea production along the value chain; producing corn for animal feed; intensive macadamia cultivation according to VietGAP standards linked with consumption contracts; Circular cattle farming and sheep breeding are adaptations to climate change.

Contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural sector.

Significantly, the Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has collaborated with domestic scientific institutes to develop and replicate models for producing raw potatoes linked to product consumption systems in the Central Highlands provinces; exploit and develop the genetic resources of Binh Thuan grass-fed pigs in some South Central provinces; and research the processing, preservation, and use of dragon fruit branches as animal feed in arid and saline-affected areas in the southern provinces. Simultaneously, it has coordinated with localities in the province to implement the targeted program for restructuring the agricultural sector, focusing on replicating organic and circular farming models, growing biomass corn for cattle feed, raising earthworms to produce bio-fertilizers, and developing new mulberry and silkworm varieties.

In particular, with national target programs for developing green and sustainable agriculture, the Center has coordinated and participated in agricultural extension projects supporting the application of direct sprinkler irrigation technology to the roots of durian, mango, and coffee trees; projects to improve the landscape and environment of crop cultivation associated with rural tourism development; and demonstration models of climate-resilient agricultural production...

The Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center has advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to approve a coordination mechanism with the People's Committees at the commune level in implementing agricultural extension tasks in the area. At the same time, it has strengthened training to improve the operational capacity of members of community agricultural extension groups on developing cooperative economics, expanding markets, and linking digital transformation in agricultural production, product traceability, thereby contributing to advising and transferring technology to help Lam Dong farmers access new production processes, adapt to climate change, and build and spread brands of agricultural products from the ecological zones of Lam Dong province in the market.
