Twenty-six authors submitted scripts, and the judging panel selected 11, which will be further refined for staging and performance.
The stage scriptwriting workshop is an opportunity for authors to meet, interact, exchange ideas, and learn from each other, gaining new perspectives and creating excellent scripts. In recent years, alongside seasoned authors, the scriptwriting workshop of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association has seen the participation of many young writers, bringing freshness and youthfulness in thinking and expression. This year, the participation of two young authors, Tran Khuong Duy and Ky Phuong, raises high expectations for scripts with new perspectives and a youthful lens for the stage.
Author Ngoc Truc speaks at the 2024 Scriptwriting Workshop organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association in Ninh Thuan.
However, according to those involved, there has yet to be a clear breakthrough in scriptwriting, in terms of a perspective that keeps pace with life. "We need to write about issues closely related to life, directly connected to what happens to people today. That alone will give the script a very high chance of being staged and having a longer lifespan when performed," said People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association.
Author Ngoc Truc stated: "A script must both sell tickets and serve political purposes. Therefore, the author needs to be flexible with their writing to reconcile these two requirements." Author Vuong Huyen Co added: "A good and engaging script is not difficult to create; it's about exploiting many details from everyday life, which will convince the audience."
