Mr. Pham Tran Quoc's household was recommended by the Center to implement a commercial frog farming model with a scale of 16,000 frogs, which has been carried out since March 2025. Mr. Quoc received support policies covering 50% of the cost of froglets and 40% of the cost of breeding supplies. During the farming process, Mr. Quoc took good care of the frogs, providing them with sufficient food and a proper water change schedule. To date, the frogs are eating well and gaining weight steadily, weighing 3 to 5 frogs per kilogram, with an 82% survival rate. Mr. Quoc was also advised by the Center to pay attention to changing weather conditions, providing shade to reduce shock to the frogs, and to change the water frequently to maintain a clean farming environment, which will promote faster growth. According to the Center, the profit from the model is estimated at over 39.5 million VND, which can help stabilize income and improve the living standards of the farming household.
Ms. Pham Thi Bich Thom, Director of the Agricultural Technical and Service Center of Phan Thiet City, said that this model is suitable for the local reality and natural conditions, helping farmers to switch to livestock breeds with high productivity and quality meat. Currently, the demand for frog meat in the market is high, so farmers will confidently restock and increase economic efficiency. According to Ms. Thom, the locality needs to pay attention to supporting the successful implementation of the model; continue to promote and replicate the model for union members, association members, and farmers in the area. Farmers need to regularly monitor the health of their frogs, clean and change the water, arrange the ponds to suit the weather at each time; and supplement feed and minerals according to each stage of development.
This model is expected to diversify freshwater aquatic species in the city, helping farmers shift to high-quality freshwater aquatic species, contributing to a new look for agricultural production in the city in general and Phong Nam commune in particular, thereby not only increasing income but also helping to balance the natural ecological environment.
