In 2025, Quang Ninh's retail sector is expected to continue its strong growth thanks to a solid foundation in its distribution system, the recovery of the domestic and international economies , and the expansion of major players in the retail sector. In addition, the boom in e-commerce and multi-channel sales methods will create promising growth opportunities.

In 2024, trade and service activities in Quang Ninh province made positive strides, contributing to a brighter overall economic picture for the province. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue across the province are estimated to have increased by 12.9% compared to the previous year. Most product and service categories showed positive growth. These results demonstrate the stable development and potential for expansion of the province's retail market in the future.

To achieve these results, the province has implemented a series of important solutions such as strengthening trade promotion, organizing supply-demand connection activities between Quang Ninh and other provinces and cities nationwide, helping businesses expand their product markets. It has effectively implemented the "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" campaign, bringing Vietnamese goods closer to consumers and supporting the sustainable development of domestic businesses; improving market management, strictly controlling supply and demand, severely punishing counterfeit, fake, and substandard goods, ensuring a healthy business environment; developing commercial infrastructure; and focusing on expanding the retail system in rural areas, making it easier for people to access quality goods.

In this context, the Department of Industry and Trade, playing a core role, has actively monitored market developments, ensured sufficient supply of essential goods, developed a modern commercial infrastructure system; strengthened regional connectivity and linkages in trade promotion activities, and implemented pilot market models ensuring food safety. Notably, it successfully organized national trade promotion programs such as the Northeast Region OCOP Fair - Quang Ninh 2024; the Quang Ninh OCOP Fair - Spring 2024, the Quang Ninh OCOP Fair - Summer 2024; the Vietnamese Goods Week; participated in two trade promotion programs in Hanoi and Da Nang; participated in four festivals and trade fairs in China and Laos; organized two conferences to connect and support the consumption of agricultural products and OCOP products; and certified 12 trade promotion programs in the province.

In addition, trade promotion activities have been innovated through organizing online sales events, promoting specialty products, and setting up booths to promote e-commerce activities. This has created conditions and supported cooperatives, businesses, and production units of OCOP products to access online sales. Information on trade promotion programs in 25 provinces such as Tien Giang, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Thai Nguyen, etc., has been provided, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Office of New Rural Development Coordination, local People's Committees, business associations, the Young Entrepreneurs Association, and the Provincial Cooperative Alliance have been requested to coordinate in providing information to units and businesses under their management so that they can proactively register to participate. Support has been provided in connecting information, promoting, introducing, and connecting the consumption of OCOP products and rural industrial products from 16 provinces/cities (Binh Thuan, Ha Giang, Can Tho, etc.) to supermarkets, convenience stores, and distribution units in the province. Organized two conferences to raise awareness about the benefits of the cashless payment market 4.0 model and the skills to apply digital solutions in trade promotion and e-commerce activities for 300 delegates including market management boards, producers, businesses, and residents in Quang Yen town and Dam Ha district. In coordination with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Korea Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (KOSME), organized a training course on “Supporting businesses to promote cross-border e-commerce application” in Quang Ninh for businesses, organizations, cooperatives, and business households in the province. Conducted a survey on the application of e-commerce by businesses and business households in the province; and expanded the cashless payment market 4.0 model.

To date, the province has 82 OCOP products that have been stably connected to modern distribution channels (Go! Ha Long supermarket, MM Mega Market, Winmart, Aloha...), chains of convenience stores selling clean agricultural products, and 82 shopping points selling OCOP products and typical provincial products serving tourists. 123 OCOP products from the province have been sold in some major cities and provinces nationwide such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong; 393 out of 393 OCOP products have achieved 3-5 stars and are listed on e-commerce platforms. 100% of central markets accept cashless payments for fees and electricity and water bills; the number of businesses in the markets accepting cashless payments is approximately 83%. Currently, localities and business households are continuing to maintain 100% coverage in Class 1 and Class 2 markets and are expanding, striving to achieve 100% coverage in all markets in the area.

In 2025, the province's retail sector is projected to continue its strong growth momentum thanks to the stability of the economy and the sustainable development of commercial infrastructure. Along with the digital transformation trend and the boom in e-commerce, Quang Ninh's retail market will have great opportunities for strong development. In particular, the combination of traditional and online retail channels will be the main driving force helping businesses reach customers more effectively and enhance the shopping experience.

Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade is continuing to implement policies to support businesses, encourage investment in modern commercial infrastructure, expand distribution channels, and improve service quality. The Department will also promote the development of multi-channel retail models, combining traditional and e-commerce, to meet the growing needs of consumers. In addition, trade promotion programs, promotions, and consumer fairs will be organized to stimulate demand and expand the market. Furthermore, market management will be strengthened, product quality will be controlled, and commercial fraud and counterfeit goods will be strictly dealt with to protect consumer rights. At the same time, attracting investment from large retail corporations and developing a modern logistics system and supply chain will also be emphasized to create a solid foundation for the development of the retail sector in 2025.

Despite facing numerous challenges amidst a volatile global economy, Quang Ninh's retail sector recorded positive results in 2024 and is expected to experience a strong breakthrough in 2025 thanks to the prospect of Vietnam's economic recovery. In the long term, with rapid urbanization, the strong development of e-commerce, and the increase in income and living standards of the people, the retail sector will have many opportunities for remarkable growth. These factors will not only boost the growth of the consumer market but also create a solid foundation for Quang Ninh's retail sector to confidently achieve its goals in 2025.
