Promoting the pioneering role
Over 101 years since the first issue of Thanh Nien Newspaper, founded by Leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, was published on June 21, 1925, Vietnamese revolutionary journalism has always accompanied the nation in its struggle for independence, national construction, and defense. In the digital age, this mission becomes even more important as journalism not only transmits accurate and timely information but also functions to guide public opinion, combat false and hostile viewpoints, and protect the ideological foundation of the Party.
In Dak Lak – a land rich in revolutionary traditions and strategically important for national defense and security – local press agencies and resident reporters have continuously innovated their journalistic thinking, applied digital technology, and improved the quality of information. The press has closely followed reality, comprehensively reflecting the achievements in socio -economic development, Party building, preserving the cultural identity of ethnic groups, and ensuring national defense and security; while also disseminating new factors, good models, and effective practices.

In particular, in the face of the increase in harmful and toxic information on the internet, the press in Dak Lak has played a pioneering role in providing official information, guiding public opinion, combating false information, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party's leadership and the government's administration, and creating social consensus.
A clear example of the pioneering role of journalism on the ideological front is the report "The Fierce Flood and the Spread of Fake News" by the team of authors Quoc Bao, Nguyen Yen, Quoc Hoan, The Hoan, Cam Trang, and Hong Khuong (Dak Lak Newspaper, Radio, and Television), which recently won the Third Prize at the 20th National Journalism Awards in 2025. The report reflects the reality of fake news spreading on the internet during the historic flood that occurred in Dak Lak from November 19 to 22, 2025.
The rapid development of social media has created a multi-faceted information environment but has also led to an increase in fake news, misinformation, and distorted narratives. In this context, mainstream journalism needs to continue to affirm its leading role in providing timely, accurate, and objective information, contributing to strengthening society's resilience against harmful information flows. Journalist Nguyen Quoc Bao, Head of the Radio and Television Department of Dak Lak Province, representing the group of authors, said that the creation of the work stemmed from the reality during the historic floods, when fake news spread rapidly on social media, causing public panic and hindering disaster response efforts. Through the work, the group of authors hopes to warn about the serious consequences of fake news in emergency situations, while affirming the role and responsibility of the press in providing accurate information, guiding public opinion, and protecting the truth.
Hold firm in the information battleground.
In reality, when faced with complex and sensitive issues arising in social life, if mainstream media is slow to speak out, the information gap is easily filled by false rumors and distorted narratives. Therefore, the current demands on the press are to be quick, accurate, and objective; while simultaneously enhancing the critical analysis and persuasiveness of information. Each journalistic work should not only reflect events but also contribute to shaping public awareness and strengthening the community's "information resistance."

According to journalist Nguyen Cong Ly, Head of the Nhan Dan Newspaper's representative office in Dak Lak province, in the context of fake news, malicious information, and misinformation spreading rampant on social media platforms, the role of the press, especially major media outlets, becomes even more important in guiding information and shaping public opinion. Each journalist not only performs the task of informing and disseminating information but also acts as a "gatekeeper" of the information flow, helping the public discern right from wrong and strengthening their immunity against fake news, malicious information, and distorted narratives. To achieve this, journalists need to constantly improve their political acumen, professional skills, professional ethics, and sense of responsibility towards society.
