Among them, Huu Lien commune is considered a destination with great potential in terms of natural landscapes, characteristic village spaces, and a rich and distinctive culinary treasure trove.

Huu Lien commune is blessed with a rich ecosystem and diverse, unique landscapes, earning it the nickname "the green lung" of Lang Son province. It boasts majestic limestone mountain ranges, vast, sprawling grasslands, moss-covered waterfalls, and emerald-green lakes. Furthermore, Huu Lien experiences two distinct seasons – high water and low water – making it ideal for tourism development with a variety of enriching experiences.

Appreciating the potential for developing adventure tourism in Huu Lien, Mr. Pham Van Manh, Director of Vietnam Expeditions Joint Stock Company, said that the highlight of Huu Lien commune lies in its valley terrain surrounded by rugged limestone ranges along with a rich system of streams, waterfalls, lakes, and caves.

Notably, the system of 20 climbing points with nearly 200 adventure sports climbing routes on the limestone mountain ranges is also considered a unique form of tourism, attracting thousands of visitors to Huu Lien every year, the majority of whom are international tourists.

In addition, Huu Lien is a locality rich in cultural and historical values with many typical traditional festivals and relics.

Among these, the Ngo Lang Giang Festival has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage; relics such as Lang Giang Pagoda, Go Chua Communal House, Am Pagoda, etc., have been inventoried and ranked as provincial-level relics; in addition, Huu Lien also has many other attractive tourist attractions and scenic spots such as Bac Mo Dam, Khe Dau Waterfall, Lan Ty Lake, Hat Waterfall, Lan Cut Lake, etc., attracting the attention of many tourists who enjoy unique experiences.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said: “Coming to Huu Lien, we not only get to visit and experience the local beauty but also have the opportunity to personally prepare traditional specialties of the Tay and Nung people such as wrapping black sticky rice cakes, making steamed pork rolls, and enjoying famous local dishes like braised pork belly, custard apple, and herbal rice wine... In addition, rowing boats and swimming along the cool blue waters of Dong Lam Lake also gave my family and me unforgettable experiences.”

With the desire to provide high-quality services and contribute to building the brand of Huu Lien community tourism village on the tourism map of Lang Son province, according to the Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, Nguyen Quang Hoa, there are currently more than 37 accommodation establishments in the commune with over 650 workers participating in tourism activities, of which about 470 workers directly serve tourists; there are more than 450 rooms that meet the requirements for technical infrastructure to serve tourism development.

This is an important resource that contributes to promoting socio-economic development, creating jobs, and increasing income for local people.

In 2025, Huu Lien Community Tourism Village proudly won two ASEAN Tourism Awards. This is a great opportunity to promote the image and elevate the position of community tourism in Lang Son province on the national and international tourism map.

During the process of developing the community-based tourism village model, Huu Lien commune also noted some difficulties. Among them, despite possessing abundant natural resources, Huu Lien's tourism sector still faces limitations in investment promotion and market connectivity. To date, the locality has not yet attracted the attention of large enterprises in investing in and developing tourism.

Furthermore, planning, environmental sanitation, and the preservation of space and landscape at tourist sites and historical relics are not yet adequately ensured. Currently, the main method of waste collection and treatment relies on encouraging residents and communities to collect and dispose of waste themselves through self-incineration.

The predominantly mountainous terrain makes transportation in Huu Lien difficult. Telecommunications coverage is lacking or unstable in some areas. The Dong Lam scenic area currently only has one Viettel transmission tower, with no other network providers participating.

Determined to urgently overcome existing limitations and difficulties, in recent times, following the direction of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, the commune has proceeded to develop a project for the development of Huu Lien Community Tourism Village, aiming to build a model community tourism village that operates effectively, sustainably, and is environmentally friendly; creating stable livelihoods for the people, while preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the locality.

“With the goal of developing tourism into a leading economic sector, the commune aims to attract 210,000 tourists by 2030, generating revenue of 67.2 billion VND. Most importantly, Huu Lien is committed to developing tourism in conjunction with protecting the natural environment and preserving cultural heritage, ensuring sustainable development, maintaining identity, and bringing long-term benefits to the community,” Mr. Nguyen Quang Hoa emphasized.

According to Mr. Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, the project to develop Huu Lien Community Tourism Village promises to further affirm Huu Lien's unique appeal on the map of community and ecotourism in Lang Son province in particular and the northern mountainous midland region in general.
