Lam Son during fruit garden tourism season.

Located at the foot of Ngoan Muc Pass, bordering Lam Dong province, Lam Son commune (Ninh Son district) is blessed with a mild climate. This advantage has helped local people grow many kinds of fruit trees such as rambutan, durian, mangosteen, pomelo, jackfruit, etc. Around the beginning of July each year, the fruit here begins its peak season, which is also the time when orchards open their doors to welcome tourists.

These days, the orchards at the foot of Ngoan Muc Pass are always bustling with tourists. With an entrance fee of 30,000 VND per person, visitors can immerse themselves in the shade of the orchards, enjoy recreational activities , and experience the thrill of picking and eating fresh, delicious fruits to their heart's content. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, from Lam Binh village, owner of the nearly 2-hectare Xuan Hung fruit orchard, is instructing tourists on how to plant and care for his trees. He said: "This fruit-growing area was established more than 30 years ago. Currently, the orchard has ancient durian trees that bear fruit consistently, and a variety of ripe fruits such as rambutan, mangosteen, jackfruit, and green pomelo to serve tourists. This year, the family's fruit yield has decreased by 30% compared to previous years due to drought, but the stable prices of other fruits in the market still bring in a considerable income for the family." Among them, durian is priced from 40,000-70,000 VND/kg, mangosteen from 35,000-50,000 VND/kg, and rambutan from 15,000-25,000 VND/kg. Notably, Lam Son fruits have been granted Geographical Indication status and have established a brand, giving people confidence in developing their crops. Therefore, we always focus on orchard care to produce high-quality, safe fruit products. Durian, in particular, is only harvested when the fruit ripens and falls naturally, so its quality and flavor are highly appreciated by tourists and are always in high demand.

Tourists enjoy the experience of visiting the fruit orchard.

While happily capturing moments amidst the ripe red rambutan orchard, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hong, a tourist from Da Lat City (Lam Dong province), said: "This is the first time my whole family has visited Ninh Thuan , and the first place we stopped on the way was to experience this fruit orchard. I was very impressed by the fresh and green air here, and the fruit trees that I thought could only be found in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. Especially, the fruits here are fragrant, sweet, and very reasonably priced. The rambutan and mangosteen have a sweet and slightly sour taste; the durian is fragrant, creamy, not too strong, and tastes very different from the fruits I've tried elsewhere."

Currently, the entire Lam Son commune has about 30 households specializing in fruit cultivation and combining it with garden tourism. To provide a perfect experience for tourists, many garden owners have renovated their gardens, creating ecological landscapes to offer visitors more experiences during their visits. Ms. Dang Thi My Lai, from Lam Binh village, owner of Quang Lai fruit garden with an area of over 2 hectares, said: "To make visitors more satisfied when visiting the garden, my family has renovated the ecological water tanks to make the garden more vibrant, built rest pavilions in the garden, and constructed a swimming pool for guests who want to experience swimming. If guests need food and drinks, my family will prepare dishes according to their requests and reserve tables for them in the garden. At this time, the fruit has begun to ripen, and the garden attracts a large number of tourists every day, especially on weekends, when the garden welcomes 300-400 visitors per day."

Ms. Truong Thi Thao Duyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lam Son commune, said: Currently, the commune has more than 500 hectares planted with various fruit trees such as durian, mangosteen, rambutan, green pomelo, jackfruit, etc. In the past, the fruit was usually sold by orchard owners to traders, but now many orchards have focused on developing orchard tourism models, so the fruit is mainly served to tourists right in the orchards. To develop fruit orchards, the local government regularly encourages people to improve the soil in their orchards, and at the same time seeks new varieties to diversify the types of crops, creating a green, clean, and beautiful environment to develop ecotourism. In addition, they have encouraged households to donate land and have expanded the roads leading to the orchards in the villages of Lam Hoa, Lam Binh, Lam Quy, and the area south of Sakai waterfall to facilitate convenient travel for tourists.

With its cool climate and abundant fruit trees, Lam Son commune invites tourists to visit during the 2024 fruit tourism season. The sweet taste of the fruit, combined with the hospitality of the local people, will provide visitors with delightful experiences.
