The "All People Participate in Physical Exercise and Sports " program in 2026, held at Tan Hoa Commune Square, attracted over 1,500 officials, civil servants, employees, students, and residents from various communes and wards in Can Tho City. The group runs, social activities, and collective exercise sessions fostered community connection in the spacious square.
The large number of participants also shows that exercise and physical training are increasingly becoming a part of daily life. Mr. Nguyen Van Chieu, a resident of Tan Hoa commune, shared: “I have always maintained a morning exercise routine, but this is the first time I have participated in an activity with so many people, so I am very excited. I hope the local authorities will organize more similar programs so that people have more healthy recreational activities.”
From a community sports event, the program has created a positive effect on awareness, encouraging people to proactively take care of their health through physical training. Mr. Lam Thanh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said: In recent years, the mass sports movement in the city has continued to develop with many clubs, training centers and grassroots sports competitions being regularly maintained. Organizing large-scale activities has contributed to raising people's awareness of the role and importance of physical training, thereby effectively implementing the campaign "All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh".
Besides encouraging people to exercise, the Vietnam Olympic Committee also coordinated the organization of a Swimming and Drowning Rescue Course for swimming coaches and instructors. Nearly 100 participants, including sports officials from communes and wards, physical education teachers, and swimming pool staff, were equipped with knowledge on developing safe swimming programs, drowning prevention skills, swimming instruction methods, and first aid for drowning victims.
Mr. Pham Van Huy, a physical education teacher at Vinh Vien 1 Primary School (Vinh Vien commune), said: “We were guided on basic knowledge about preventing and combating drowning, first aid techniques, and confidently practiced skills in the water. These are useful experiences to effectively implement swimming lessons and promote drowning prevention among students at the school.”
According to the Vietnam Olympic Committee, Can Tho City has been selected as the 16th "stop" in a series of 30 events of the "National Program for Physical Training and Sports" in 2026. This is a recognition of the achievements that Can Tho City has made in developing the mass sports movement in recent years.
