The Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village was established in 2010 and officially recognized as a provincial-level tourist destination in 2015. Located within the special national historical site of the Bac Son Uprising and the UNESCO Global Geopark of Lang Son, the village boasts beautiful natural landscapes, over 400 ancient stilt houses, a unique traditional culture, and a friendly, hospitable lifestyle preserved through generations. Quynh Son has become a model for community-based tourism development linked to the preservation of the Tay ethnic culture.

Attractive, rich in character
Stepping into the Bac Son valley in mid-November, visitors feel as if they've entered a giant painting with the golden hues of ripening rice fields. Mr. RuDi, an Austrian tourist, said: "I learned about Quynh Son from friends and through social media before knowing that the village was honored as the World's Best Community-Based Tourism Village 2025. Seeing the valley of ripening rice fields surrounded by limestone mountains, I understand why Quynh Son is so famous. The community here is very friendly and hospitable. I also got to hear their Then singing, a very interesting form of music . What I also really liked was the unique and diverse cuisine. I will definitely continue to recommend this wonderful place to my friends."
Not only foreign tourists but also many domestic visitors have had a positive impression of Quynh Son. Ms. Phung Thi Hong Hanh (Thanh Xuan ward, Hanoi) shared: “After two days exploring Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village, I am truly happy. I not only immersed myself in the vast space of fragrant ripe rice fields but also participated in many interesting experiences. For example, I tried rowing a raft in the fields, made cakes by hand, and experienced the traditional pottery making craft of the Tay people. Everything here gives a simple, authentic feeling that the city cannot offer.”
The above are just two of the many visitors who have experienced and been impressed by Quynh Son in recent times. From July 1st, 2025 to the present, Quynh Son Community Tourism Village has welcomed 15,688 visitors (including 896 overnight guests and 357 international visitors). This demonstrates the increasing attractiveness of Quynh Son Community Tourism Village.

Mr. Duong Cong Co, Director of Quynh Son Tourism Cooperative and owner of the village's first homestay, said: "Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village currently has 9 homestays offering many attractive experiential services such as: bonfires, hands-on baking experiences, enjoying local specialties like black sticky rice cakes and sausages, and cultural exchanges with traditional Then and Vi singing, Tan Dan dances, boat trips to admire the ripening rice fields, tile making, cake making, and rice harvesting… Since 2010, we have clearly understood that the stilt house architecture, language, costumes, and Then and Sli melodies are invaluable assets. Each villager participating in tourism must be a 'cultural ambassador,' telling the story of their village through the unique identity of the Tay ethnic group. That's how we attract tourists."
These efforts to preserve cultural identity and develop community tourism in a sustainable and responsible manner have yielded well-deserved results for Quynh Son Community Tourism Village, as it has been recognized as the "Best Tourism Village of 2025".
To capitalize on this prestigious title, the people of Quynh Son are actively investing in and improving the quality of their services. Ms. Duong Thi Kieu, owner of Duong Cong Chich Homestay, shared: "I am very honored and proud that Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village has been recognized as the best tourist village in the world. Currently, my family is investing in four more rooms with full amenities, using many decorative materials close to nature to better serve the needs of tourists."
In addition to renovating their homes and maintaining their yards, families in Quynh Son are also stepping up their communication efforts, leveraging the advantages of social media platforms like Zalo, Facebook, and Booking.com to introduce and promote the beautiful scenery, cuisine, and reputable accommodation options.
Towards sustainable development
Every year, when the golden rice fields of Bac Son ripen, the Golden Season Tourism Festival takes place. Lasting from November 7th to 15th, the 2025 Golden Season Tourism Festival became the highlight of the province's tourism industry, with its opening ceremony coinciding with a proud moment: Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village officially recognized by UN Tourism as the "World's Best Tourist Village 2025". Visitors have the opportunity to participate in a series of unique cultural and experiential activities, from pounding rice, making black sticky rice cakes, harvesting rice, and paddleboarding amidst the golden landscape, to enjoying highland cuisine in specialized areas, visiting OCOP product exhibitions, and strolling around the vibrant tourism fair.
During the festival days, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center organized a Famtrip program "Experience and Connect with Tourism Cooperation" for travel businesses, investors, content creators, photographers, and central and local journalists to directly explore Quynh Son, opening up opportunities for cooperation in building new tour routes.
Mr. Luong Duy Doanh, Head of the East-West North Section (Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club), Director of FiveStar Travel Company, said: "When I heard the news that Quynh Son was honored, I was truly moved and proud. This is the result of a long process that the people, government, and tourism organizations of Lang Son have persistently cultivated. However, I believe that the title also comes with responsibility. Having been recognized by the world, Quynh Son has become an influential destination. From now on, all tourism activities must be elevated to a new level, more professional and sustainable. The title 'Best Tourist Village in the World' is not the destination, but the starting point for a longer journey. The challenge lies in maintaining that title, ensuring that every visitor feels the sincerity, hospitality, and identity of the Tay people. When the community works together, sharing benefits and responsibilities, Quynh Son will surely develop sustainably."
The global award is not only an honor but also an opportunity for Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village in particular and Lang Son tourism in general to elevate their development. Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, emphasized: This title is a “golden opportunity” for Lang Son to promote its brand. We are actively implementing an international communication campaign, not only promoting Quynh Son but also introducing all its characteristic tourism products such as ancient cypress forests, historical relics, and its connection with the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark.
Regarding future directions, Mr. Trinh Minh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Son commune, said: "We will focus on maintaining service quality, landscape planning, and waste management to ensure that Quynh Son remains a friendly and safe destination. Our goal is to expand the community-based tourism model and form a linked chain to make Bac Son a destination for green and cultural tourism in the 2025-2030 period."
With the title of "World's Best Tourism Village 2025," the concerted efforts of the government, businesses, and community, along with the effective utilization of the golden opportunity from the award, mean that Quynh Son Community Tourism Village is facing a bright future, promising to become a model destination for sustainable development and affirming its international position in its new development journey.
