
Teacher Nguyen Thi Thu Huong - Head of the English and Informatics Department (Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School) - is reviewing her lesson plan.
Born and raised in Hanoi , in 2002, young teacher Nguyen Thi Thu Huong graduated from the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Among many career choices, in 2004, she decided to move to Lai Chau to work. For her, bringing knowledge to students in mountainous areas is not just a job, but also a responsibility and an ideal of a teacher.
In her early years working at Than Uyên High School, and later at the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, Ms. Hương faced many difficulties. However, through perseverance, dedication, and a sense of responsibility, she gradually adapted and innovated her teaching methods to suit the needs of ethnic minority students. As the Head of the English and Informatics Department, she set a good example, proactively developing professional plans, organizing thematic activities, sharing experiences, and supporting colleagues, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and learning in her department and the school.

Ms. Huong shared: “I received advanced training in teaching methods in Singapore according to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training . Currently, I am a Master of English and pursuing a second degree in Chinese at Thai Nguyen University. I always remind myself to strive and be dedicated to my work, thanks to which the attendance rate of students in English always reaches 99%. The quality of the subject over the years has maintained above 80% of students achieving average or above average, with the percentage of good and excellent students accounting for over 77.6%. In particular, the school's results in the high school graduation exam in English have consistently been around 80% for many years.”
In addition to focusing on improving the quality of mass education , Ms. Huong also devotes much effort to nurturing gifted students. Under her guidance, many students have achieved high results in various competitions: one student participated in the national cultural competition for ethnic boarding schools and won an honorable mention in English; five students won awards at the provincial level for gifted students (one second prize, two third prizes, and two honorable mentions). She also guided students in participating in provincial-level science and technology research projects, with two projects both winning second prizes. In the field of research and innovation in teaching methods, she has eight grassroots-level and two provincial-level innovative teaching experiences that have been highly appreciated and effectively applied in practice.
Ly Le Xo (class 12C2) shared: “I especially love English, particularly the classes taught by Ms. Huong. Her dedication and easy-to-understand teaching methods have made me more interested and confident in my studies. This is my final year of high school, and I am striving to achieve high results in the graduation exam and pass the entrance exam to Thai Nguyen University.”
With her strong professional competence and reputation, Ms. Huong has been trusted by the Department of Education and Training for many years to participate in setting and grading English proficiency exams at the provincial level; participating in the judging panel for teacher competency exams and national-level student excellence competitions; participating in training core teachers, inspecting exam preparation and invigilation for the high school graduation exam; participating in compiling multiple-choice question banks, creating mock graduation exams and entrance exams for grade 10; and participating in the council for awarding the title of outstanding teacher.
For many years, Ms. Huong has consistently been rated as an excellent professional; recognized as a Party member who has excellently fulfilled her duties for four consecutive years; and awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Party Committee of the Department of Education and Training for being an exemplary figure in "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh" in 2022. Currently, Ms. Huong is being considered for the title of Outstanding Teacher - a well-deserved recognition for her dedicated and unwavering commitment to the teaching profession.
