Workers have given up dreaming of high salaries.

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí15/07/2023

In the first six months of the year, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Human Resource Demand Forecasting and Labor Market Information (Falmi, under the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the city) conducted surveys on recruitment needs of 43,000 businesses with nearly 154,000 job positions and more than 76,000 job seekers.

The results show that job seekers' needs are mainly focused on salaries of 10-15 million VND/month (accounting for 44.26%), followed by 15-20 million VND/month (accounting for 24.51%), salaries above 20 million VND/month also account for 19.06%, salaries of 5-10 million VND/month are only requested by 11.49% of job seekers, and the lowest salary is below 5 million VND/month, with only 0.68% of job seekers requesting it.

This statistic shows a significant shift in job search demand based on salary levels.

According to Falmi's 2022 survey, the highest demand for jobs among workers was for salaries above 20 million VND per month (accounting for 38.97%). This year, the group of workers seeking high salaries has decreased sharply, down to 19.06%, which is only half the figure from 2022.

Furthermore, the number of job seekers earning a decent salary (15-20 million VND/month) in the first six months of 2023 did not increase significantly, only rising by nearly 7% compared to 2022.

The strongest increase was in the group of job seekers seeking mid-range salaries (10-15 million VND/month), with a growth rate of over 18% compared to 2022.

This shift in job seekers' preferences has helped to balance the labor supply and demand in terms of wages more effectively compared to 2022. The proportion of job seekers based on salary levels is now closer to the recruitment needs of businesses.

Specifically, at the high salary level (over 20 million VND/month), businesses need to recruit more than 28,000 jobs, accounting for 18.51% of the total workforce demand, almost equal to the job search rate (19.06%).

At a relatively high salary level (15-20 million VND/month), businesses need nearly 25,000 job openings, accounting for 15.99% of the total workforce demand, which is not too low compared to the demand from job seekers.

Only in the low-wage group (below 5 million VND/month) is there a significant disparity between supply and demand. Businesses need more than 23,000 jobs, accounting for 15.01% of the total workforce demand, but only 0.68% of job seekers chose this salary level.

In the low-wage category, businesses mainly pay for unskilled labor positions such as waiters, kitchen assistants, delivery drivers, marketing staff, janitors, security guards, supermarket sales staff, etc. However, in this job group, many job seekers are requesting salaries higher than 5 million VND/month.
