With his traditional song praising beloved Uncle Ho, Nguyen Nhat Truong, a student from Binh An 3 Primary School in Binh An commune, captivated the judges at the 2026 Vietnam History Knowledge Contest and won the A prize in the talent competition. “I am very happy to participate in the contest and win a prize. I practiced for many days to prepare for the performance. Through the contest, I learned more about the history of our nation, about beloved Uncle Ho, and met many friends, so I feel this summer has been very fun and beneficial,” Nhat Truong shared.
Nhat Truong was one of over 250 students participating in the 2026 Vietnamese History Knowledge Contest with the theme "An Giang Children Growing Up with the Nation," organized by the Provincial Youth Activities and Youth Entrepreneurship Center. Stories about national history, revolutionary traditions, the beloved President Ho Chi Minh, and the traditions of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization were vividly presented through performances such as storytelling, presentations, skits, poetry recitation, singing, and art. The contest was one of many activities organized for children in the province during the summer. More than just a playground, the contest helped children learn more about history, fostering love for their homeland and national pride.
Along with the history-themed playground, the Provincial Youth Activities and Youth Entrepreneurship Center also organized a Cultural and Sports Festival, attracting more than 200 children from various communes, wards, and special zones. The children competed in many events such as aerobics, group dance, musical instruments, swimming, chess, group performances, and martial arts demonstrations. The festival brought a joyful and lively atmosphere to the early summer days. Dao Thien An, a student from Trung Vuong Primary School in Rach Gia ward, said: “I really like chess. Every time I participate in a competition, I meet many new friends and learn many interesting ways to play. I hope that every summer there will be playgrounds like this to entertain myself and train my thinking skills.”
The "Semester in the Army" program continues to attract the attention of many parents and young people. The Provincial Youth Union, in coordination with the Provincial Military Command, organized the first "Semester in the Army" program in 2026 with the theme "Proud to be a Soldier." Over the course of nine days, participants lived and studied at Battalion 207, Regiment 893. They participated in various activities such as drill and formation, folding and arranging bedding, military techniques, obstacle courses, and night marches; they were also equipped with life skills, teamwork skills, and participated in workshops on family, friendship, and civic responsibility.
For many parents, the "Military Semester" program is an environment for their children to develop independence and discipline. Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, a resident of Rach Gia ward and a parent whose child participated in the "Military Semester," said: "Our family hopes our child will learn independence, discipline, and how to take care of themselves. The experiences in the military environment will help our child mature, appreciate their parents' efforts, and become more responsible for themselves."
According to Mr. Du Pham Huu Khuyen, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Provincial Children's Council, this year's summer activities are designed to be diverse and suitable for each age group, giving children more opportunities to learn, play, and experience, with the hope that each summer activity will bring practical value to the children. Besides creating playgrounds, the programs also focus on educating life skills, fostering love for the homeland, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to excel in their studies and lives.
