Use fragrant flowers to overpower the weeds.

The education sector has many exemplary individuals, many good deeds, and many humane and positive stories. However, these values have not been disseminated in proportion to their potential. Conversely, exceptional and negative stories tend to stand out.

Improving communication skills is the way to "plant more beautiful flowers and push back the weeds."

Mr. Le Thang Loi, head of the Ministry's representative office and director of the Southern Center for Education and Training Development, Ministry of Education and Training , stated this regarding the policy of coordinating with Tuoi Tre newspaper to open training courses on journalism and communication skills for officials and employees in the education sector.

Proactive communication

According to Mr. Le Thang Loi, training courses will be organized continuously throughout the year for leaders, officials, staff, and teachers of educational institutions in the Southern and Central Highlands regions.

Trainees will receive training in fundamental theoretical and practical skills related to journalism and communication; skills in providing information to the press; relations and conduct with the press; internal communication, etc.

The training sessions will take place at the Southern Education and Training Development Center, the Ministry of Education and Training office, and directly at the Tuoi Tre newspaper editorial office.

Through these training sessions, each official and teacher will gain a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of the importance of communication in the education sector.

Through this, they proactively convey the industry's policies, guidelines, and positive image, while gradually improving their skills in handling media crises.

Mr. Le Thang Loi also stated that, according to statistics, Vietnam currently has approximately 26 million students and nearly 1.8 million teachers and staff. With such a large scale, any information related to education easily attracts the attention of society.

"In reality, every day in the education sector there are many good deeds and positive, humane stories. However, these values have not been spread to their full potential."

Conversely, minor incidents or negative information can easily attract public attention, even causing negative reactions and affecting the school's image if not handled promptly or properly.

In many cases, incidents that could have been resolved amicably escalated, leading to unnecessary media crises.

"Furthermore, the education sector has many good and progressive policies, but perhaps due to poor communication, they haven't received high levels of support from parents and students when implemented," Mr. Loi analyzed.

According to Mr. Loi, communication efforts at many educational institutions still have numerous limitations. The communication staff largely lacks formal training.

When incidents occur, many administrators and teachers often focus on resolving professional issues while lacking the skills to handle information or coordinate with the press and media.

"Therefore, organizing professional training courses in journalism and communication for officials and employees in the education and training sector is of great significance not only to the schools but also to the image of the education sector," Mr. Loi said.

Increase practicality and professionalism.

What sets this program apart is that learners not only gain knowledge through theory but also have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced journalists and media professionals who are working daily at the Tuoi Tre newspaper editorial office.

Journalists and experts will present various specific, realistic scenarios, and then suggest ways to handle crises.

Furthermore, visiting the newsroom will help students better understand how a news agency operates. This will improve their interpersonal skills when working with news agencies and make them more proactive in coordinating, exchanging, and providing information to the press.

Previously, the Southern Center for Education and Training Development had organized many training courses and achieved positive results.

However, since the classes mainly take place at the center's offices or some universities, the learning environment is still relatively familiar.

Expanding the learning environment to include professional journalism settings is expected to increase practicality, motivation, and interest among students.

Evaluating the effectiveness of the training courses implemented, Mr. Le Thang Loi said that the feedback from learners was generally very positive. Many localities and educational institutions proactively sent a large number of officials and teachers to participate.

Notably, after the courses, some units even suggested that the center develop separate training programs tailored to the specific characteristics and practical needs of each locality and educational institution.

"This shows that the next collaboration with Tuoi Tre newspaper - a large and experienced media agency - not only signifies cooperation but also contributes to improving the quality, practicality, and effectiveness of communication activities in the education sector," Mr. Loi affirmed.

Classes begin on January 9th.

According to the plan, each training course will be designed with a duration of 3-4 sessions. Of these, 2-3 sessions will take place at the Ministry of Education and Training's office, and one session will be dedicated to direct learning and exchange activities at the Tuoi Tre newspaper's editorial office. The next training course is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2026.

Supporting the education sector

Mr. Bui Tien Dung - editorial secretary, head of the education and youth department and director of the Tuoi Tre Newspaper Training Center - said that on January 1, 2025, Tuoi Tre Newspaper established a training center based on the development of the Training Cooperation Department.

To date, the newspaper has signed cooperation agreements with 15 universities and research institutes nationwide.

Over 3,000 full-time students have attended the newspaper's practical, hands-on training courses. In addition, the newspaper also designs short-term training courses for businesses and organizations.

"The collaboration with the Southern Center for Education and Training Development to open training courses and professional development programs in media demonstrates the newspaper's commitment to supporting the education sector and contributing to building and spreading a positive image of the sector in society," Mr. Dung said.
