With the theme "Returning to the Land of Mountains and Water," the 2023 Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival includes activities such as a water procession praying for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather; an exhibition space showcasing local products, specialties, and cuisine; sports activities and folk games; a Then singing and Dan Tinh playing performance with the participation of 1,000 people; and a week-long experience in chestnut orchards...

The Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival 2023 aims to introduce and promote the image of Cao Bang province in general, and especially to introduce and promote the national scenic spot Ban Gioc Waterfall to friends both domestically and internationally.

This is also a cultural and tourism festival; a bridge for meeting, interacting, and exchanging experiences between different regions, enriching and deepening the traditional cultural values of Cao Bang province in general and Trung Khanh district in particular.

The festival is expected to be attended by representatives from several ministries, central agencies; representatives from Cao Bang province and its affiliated units and localities; districts twinned with Trung Khanh district; and tourism businesses nationwide. Cao Bang province will also invite delegates from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; and delegates from Daixin County and Jingxi City, China.

Since its inception in 2017, the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival has gradually become a "brand" of Cao Bang tourism, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees. Locals and tourists attending the festival often prioritize visiting Ban Gioc Waterfall, Truc Lam Ban Gioc Buddhist Pagoda, Nguom Ngao Cave, the Eye of the Mountain God, historical and cultural sites, and community tourism villages.

Since the festival began, the number of tourists visiting Ban Gioc Waterfall in particular, and Trung Khanh district in general, has increased dramatically. In 2019, Trung Khanh received nearly 1 million visitors. In 2022, after the Covid-19 pandemic, Trung Khanh and Cao Bang province gradually recovered their tourism, with the number of visitors reaching over 600,000. The Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival in 2022 alone attracted more than 150,000 participants.

It is expected that, after organizing the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival 2023, the People's Committee of Cao Bang province will maintain the scale of this tourism festival as an annual event of the province. This will strongly promote the development of tourism in the locality, enhance the value of the UNESCO Global Geopark Cao Bang, and contribute to promoting the image of the people and land of Cao Bang to friends both domestically and internationally.

This year's Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival will take place after the pilot operation ceremony for tourists crossing the Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) - Duc Thien (China) scenic area at the border control station 834/1, scheduled for September 15th.

During the pilot period, from September 15, 2023 to September 14, 2024, tourists from both countries will register in advance in the form of outbound and inbound groups, with each group not exceeding 20 people.

Regarding management measures, at the main pathways and tourist attractions, the Vietnamese side has installed guard stations, surveillance cameras, and posted warning signs.

Each group's stay on the other side of the border must not exceed 5 hours, and illegal residency is strictly prohibited. Tourists must use their passports or entry/exit permits to enter the scenic areas on both sides.

During the pilot phase, entrance fees are waived for tourists from Vietnam entering China. Vietnamese tour operators must purchase insurance for tourists before they enter the scenic area on the Chinese side; other services must be paid for separately based on actual costs. Tourists from China entering Vietnam must purchase a ticket, priced at 70,000 VND per person per entry (including insurance, excluding other service fees).
