Frimpong could leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. |
The Times reports that Liverpool are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer. The right-back position is a priority for the club's management, as Alexander-Arnold is almost certain to move to Real Madrid.
His departure will leave a void at right-back. To fill this gap, coach Arne Slot is targeting and promoting his compatriot Frimpong. The player's price in the summer of 2025 will also not be as exorbitant as last year, following Bayer Leverkusen's disappointing 2024/25 season.
Liverpool may only have to spend less than £40 million on the Dutch winger. However, besides Frimpong, Rayo Vallecano defender Andrei Ratiu is another target for Liverpool. The Romanian defender is making a strong impression in La Liga this season.
Barcelona have long been linked with Ratiu, but with Jules Kounde still a regular starter at right-back, it's unlikely the Catalan club will spend heavily on the defender. Rayo Vallecano are willing to sell Andrei Ratiu for around £25 million, a figure that shouldn't be too difficult for Liverpool to afford.
However, in both the Ratiu and Frimpong deals, Liverpool faced fierce competition from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola also wants to rebuild Manchester City's squad this summer and is looking for a replacement for Kyle Walker.
This could allow Rayo or Leverkusen to push their transfer fees higher. The race to sign Ratiu or Frimpong promises to heat up the 2025 summer transfer market, as many European giants are looking to upgrade their right-wing position.
