A photo recently posted on social media platform X by "rumor expert" Majin Bu shows the back of the phone with the familiar Apple logo and a horizontally arranged camera module. Notably, the camera module only has one hole for the lens, with the other, smaller hole for the flash.

According to PhoneArena, this is most likely the iPhone 17 Air – the ultra-thin version of the iPhone line. Previously, there were reports revealing that this version would only have a single lens, but would boast an incredibly thin and lightweight design.
After these images surfaced, many people compared them to the camera of the Google Pixel 9 (scheduled for release in August 2024). Some users were excited about this change from Apple because it differs from the current square camera module. However, there were also opinions that this was a rumor, and this information was later denied.
Previously, sources revealed that Apple would release an ultra-thin iPhone model called the iPhone 17 Air in 2025 to replace the iPhone 17 Plus. It would feature a 6.6-inch screen, upgraded with ProMotion technology and a 120Hz refresh rate (twice that of the iPhone 16 Plus), providing a better gaming and movie-watching experience.
Sources reveal that the iPhone 17 Air may be equipped with a TDDI OLED display to deliver the thinnest design ever. The TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration) OLED display is reportedly a new technology launched by the Taiwanese company Novatek. TDDI technology combines touch sensors and drivers into a single layer to create an ultra-thin panel. This solution reduces smartphone thickness by several millimeters. According to 9to5mac, the 17 Air could be around 6mm thick.
However, analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has just revealed the device's thickness to be 5.5mm. If this information is accurate, it would be the thinnest iPhone ever. This would make it 30% thinner than the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, and 33% thinner than the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to launch in September of this year at a price similar to the Plus version, with a starting price of $800.
