According to the Daily Mail , Rosenior revealed he had reached a verbal agreement to take on the role of Chelsea manager alongside assistants Kalifa Cisse and Justin Walker. Strasbourg president Marc Keller tried to keep the 41-year-old strategist, but ultimately failed.
Answering reporters' questions at the press conference, Rosenior said: “I haven’t signed a formal contract yet, I’ve only reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea. Everything has been agreed upon, and it will probably be finalized in the next few hours.”
It's unusual for a coach to leave one club for another and hold a press conference before the deal is officially confirmed. However, Rosenior explained that he decided to hold the press conference to show respect for Strasbourg.
In his speech, the English strategist shared: "Now, I will become the next manager of that football club (Chelsea). I couldn't miss such a valuable opportunity in my life."
Furthermore, the English manager stated that he was very excited to take over Chelsea's star-studded squad. "They have an excellent team, a passionate fan base, and they are the Club World Cup champions," Rosenior shared.
The Blues' manager position was left vacant after Enzo Maresca clashed with the club's board and left on January 1st. Rosenior quickly emerged as the leading candidate to replace the Italian strategist.
Last season, Maresca led Chelsea to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and won the Conference League, as well as the Club World Cup in the summer of 2025.
