On September 3rd, Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, along with the Ministers of Justice and Environment, collectively submitted their resignations.
This decision, along with a series of dismissals of officials since the beginning of the year, leaves one-third of the Ukrainian cabinet vacant.
This is part of a large-scale government reshuffle by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky and his political allies are reportedly seeking to fill cabinet vacancies before his visit to the US this month and present his "plan to defeat Russia ".
"The autumn will be extremely important for Ukraine. And our state institutions should be structured so that Ukraine can achieve all the results we need, for all of us. To do this, we must strengthen certain sectors of government and structural changes to the government are being prepared. There will also be changes in the Presidential Office," Zelensky said.
Earlier this week, President Zelensky dismissed Rostyslav Shurma, one of his deputy chiefs of staff responsible for economic affairs.
David Arakhamia, a senior Ukrainian lawmaker, said there would be a "major reshuffle in the government" and more than half of the ministers would be replaced.
Ukrainian Strategic Industry Minister Kamyshin, after resigning, will still hold another position in the defense sector. He was appointed in March 2023 and played a key role in the production of thousands of long-range drones in Ukraine.
