A key issue in the United States today is the emergence of green logistics as an inevitable trend. New initiatives such as reducing carbon emissions, adopting electric vehicles and optimizing transportation routes, and increasing the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain to optimize operations, increase supply chain transparency, and improve forecasting efficiency are emerging.
In Vietnam, logistics is considered a core element supporting key export industries such as textiles, fine art wood products, agricultural products, and electronic components. However, Vietnam's logistics costs still account for approximately 16.8% of GDP – significantly higher than the global average of 10-12%, creating considerable pressure on export businesses. Transportation and warehousing costs, especially in maritime transport – the primary method of connecting with the United States – need significant improvement. To achieve this, deep-water ports like Cai Mep-Thi Vai and modern warehousing systems are receiving substantial investment to reduce operating costs, improve efficiency, and enhance competitiveness.
Another challenge that has emerged recently is fraud in the logistics sector, including forged bills of lading and cargo loss. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has recommended that Vietnamese export businesses use blockchain technology to enhance transparency and security in transactions. Simultaneously, collaborating with reputable logistics partners will help businesses minimize risks and improve transportation efficiency.
Alongside the challenges, Vietnam's logistics industry also has many great opportunities thanks to the global supply chain shift. Furthermore, the strong growth of e-commerce is driving multi-channel logistics, requiring businesses to invest in last-mile delivery and optimize transportation flows.
To fully realize its potential, the logistics industry needs continued investment in modern technology, improved infrastructure capacity, and the development of intelligent management systems. The combination of technological innovation, sustainable development, and enhanced international cooperation will help Vietnam consolidate its role in the global supply chain, thereby not only increasing export value but also promoting long-term sustainable development.
