A very notable issue in the United States today is the development of green logistics, which is emerging as an inevitable trend. New initiatives such as reducing carbon emissions, applying electric vehicles and optimizing transportation routes, increasing the use of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain to optimize operations, make supply chains transparent and improve forecasting efficiency.
In Vietnam, logistics is considered a core factor to support key export industries such as textiles, wooden handicrafts, agricultural products and electronic components. However, Vietnam's logistics costs still account for about 16.8% of GDP - much higher than the global average of 10-12%, creating great pressure on export enterprises. Transportation and storage costs, especially in maritime transport - the main mode of connection to the United States, need to be significantly improved. To do this, deep-water seaports such as Cai Mep - Thi Vai and modern warehouse systems are being invested heavily to reduce operating costs, improve efficiency and increase competitiveness.
Another challenge that has emerged recently is fraud in the logistics sector, including counterfeit bills of lading and lost goods. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has recommended that Vietnamese exporters use blockchain technology to enhance transparency and security in transactions. At the same time, cooperating with reputable logistics partners will help businesses minimize risks and improve transportation efficiency.
Besides challenges, Vietnam’s logistics industry also has many great opportunities thanks to the trend of shifting global supply chains. In addition, the strong growth of e-commerce is also promoting omnichannel logistics, requiring businesses to invest in last-mile delivery and optimize transportation flows.
To fully exploit its potential, the logistics industry needs to continue investing in modern technology, improving infrastructure capacity and building smart management systems. The combination of technological innovation, sustainable development and enhanced international cooperation will help Vietnam consolidate its role in the global supply chain, thereby not only increasing export value but also promoting sustainable development in the long term.
