On the evening of December 15, the Vietnamese team welcomed the Indonesian team at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho province), in the third match of Group B - Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF Cup) 2024. Compared to the opening match against Laos, coach Kim Sang-sik changed nearly half of the starting lineup.
The Vietnamese team played quite stalemately in the first half despite dominating the ball control.
Rated much higher than their opponents, the Vietnamese team completely controlled the game from the very first minutes. After the opening whistle, Tien Linh and his teammates pushed their formation up to attack. In the first half of the match, the ball seemed to only roll on the Indonesian side of the field. On the other hand, coach Shin Tae-yong's team actively played slowly with a low formation.

In the 65th minute, Benjamin Dethan had a good move in the penalty area to finish from close range, but Nguyen Filip rushed out to close the angle and make an excellent save.

It was not until the 77th minute that the Vietnamese team broke the deadlock with a brilliant moment from Quang Hai. From outside the penalty area, Quang Hai suddenly fired a cannonball, sending the ball hitting the crossbar of the opponent's goal. Immediately after, Tien Linh stopped the ball with his chest and Quang Hai appeared at the right time to unleash a low, tricky shot that defeated the Indonesian goalkeeper, putting the Vietnamese team ahead 1-0.
The knot was untied, the Vietnamese team played with excitement and continuously caused trouble for the Indonesian goal. However, no more goals were scored in the remaining time. In the end, the Vietnamese team won 1-0 against Indonesia.
