Advantages of Vietnamese films screened during the April 30th holiday.

"Blood Moon Feast 8" is one of the five Vietnamese films released during the April 30th holiday, attracting attention for being a Vietnamese adaptation of the popular Japanese film "One Cut of the Dead," and for bringing together a cast of talented actors from multiple generations.

This year, the Vietnamese film race during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the April 30th - May 1st holiday has become vibrant with the simultaneous release of 5 projects, including "Hero" (Vo Thach Thao), "Phi Phong" (Do Quoc Trung), "Five-Toothed Pig" (Luu Thanh Luan), "Snail King" (Duc Thinh) and "Blood Moon Grand Feast 8" (Phan Gia Nhat Linh).

Beyond simply increasing the number of films, the appearance of domestic productions also demonstrates a clear advantage for Vietnamese cinemas during major holidays: dominating the theater system and directly reaching the domestic audience – who have a high demand for entertainment during long vacations. Notably, each film has its own unique style, ranging from action and comedy to horror and satire, creating a distinct "ecosystem" that helps retain audiences in theaters.

Among them, "Blood Moon Feast 8" stands out as the Vietnamese adaptation of "One Cut of the Dead" - a Japanese film that received 100% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. However, instead of simply copying the original, the team proactively "localized" it by incorporating familiar elements such as corpse possession and historical settings, making the story more accessible to Vietnamese audiences.

The film revolves around director Tam OK (Van Son), a professional filmmaker who makes "trashy films" but longs to create a decent work that his daughter can be proud of. He takes on a challenging project: shooting a 35-minute historical horror film in a single take and streaming it live, while the cast is plagued with problems. Failure could shatter his chances of reconciling with his daughter.

Staying true to the spirit of the original film, "Blood Moon Feast 8" will open with a 35-minute one-shot (long take) – considered the longest on Vietnamese screen. This is both a technical challenge and a highlight that helps the film stand out.

According to director Phan Gia Nhật Linh, if viewers get past the first 35 minutes, they will enter the rest of the film, full of surprises, where laughter and plot twists reach a climax. This storytelling approach also reflects a notable trend: Vietnamese films are increasingly focusing on the audience experience, not just telling a story but also creating emotions.

Beyond its plot, the film also explores satirical details about the film industry itself, from rushed production and the overuse of stars to the pressure of box office success. These sensitive issues are actually a plus, as they are relatable to reality and easily resonate with domestic viewers.

The director said his inspiration came from years of commentary on Vietnamese cinema. For him, the film is like a "love letter" to himself and his colleagues – frank yet full of emotion.
