Connecting Northern Vietnam and the Central Highlands
At the Na Tu Revolutionary Historical Site in Cam Giang commune, the sweet melodies of Then singing and Tinh playing by artisans and Then enthusiasts from all over the country resonate together. Having traveled hundreds or thousands of kilometers, they gather here to offer Then songs and Tinh music to the beloved President Ho Chi Minh , expressing their profound gratitude and contributing to the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity, in accordance with his wishes.
Many artisans, visiting the revolutionary homeland of Na Tu for the first time, had the opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts and sing Then and Tinh songs together in this sacred space. This was a moment that left many unforgettable emotions and impressions on everyone who participated in the festival.
Ms. Luan Thi Mai, Head of the Central Highlands Then Heritage Association, emotionally shared: "This is the first time I've had the opportunity to visit the Na Tu Historical Site and participate in the 2026 online Then Singing and Dan Tinh Playing Festival. I am deeply moved and proud to be able to showcase the cultural identity of my ethnic group here. Although I live in the Central Highlands, I still carry within me a passion for the Then singing and Dan Tinh playing of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups, contributing to connecting the culture of Northern Vietnam with the gong culture of the Central Highlands, demonstrating the spirit of unity, love, and close ties between ethnic groups."

The performances of Then singing and Tinh lute playing not only showcase the talent and dedication of the artisans but also contribute to honoring, preserving, and spreading the value of Then singing – a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The artisans and Then enthusiasts hope for more festivals and competitions to facilitate exchange, learning, and collaborative efforts in preserving and passing on these beautiful cultural values to the younger generation.
Ms. Mai Thi Thai, from Na Duong commune, Lang Son province, shared: "Coming to the Na Tu revolutionary historical site, I was very happy to meet, interact with, and participate in Then singing competitions with many artisans from all over the country."
A meeting place for Then lovers.
Each performance in the competition bore the distinct cultural imprint and identity of each participating unit, meticulously prepared and demonstrating love and dedication to the art of Then singing and Tinh playing. The festival attracted a large number of people from Cam Giang commune and neighboring localities to watch and cheer, contributing to enriching the cultural and spiritual life of the people. Ms. Leng Thi Chung from Cam Giang commune said: "I was very happy to watch the Then singing and Tinh playing program. Many people from Cam Giang commune and other localities came to watch, and everyone was excited."
The festival, held at the Na Tu Historical Site, is a highlight in the tourism activities of Cam Giang commune and Thai Nguyen province, contributing to promoting cultural heritage and attracting tourists to this historical site – where President Ho Chi Minh visited and presented the Youth Volunteers with four verses of poetry on March 28, 1951.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Giang commune, shared: "The desire of the ethnic people and the local government is to continue coordinating with agencies and units to organize many cultural programs associated with the Na Tu National Historical Relic Site. Through this, we aim to create conditions for the people to enjoy cultural values, strengthen the spirit of community solidarity among ethnic groups, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality."
Mr. Ma Van Ngoc, from the Vietnam Then Cultural Heritage Association, affirmed that the 2026 online Then singing and Tinh lute festival attracted a large number of artisans and Then enthusiasts from many provinces. Through the program, the cultural identity of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups was honored and promoted. This was also an opportunity for artisans and Then enthusiasts from all over the country to interact, connect, and share their passion for the precious traditional cultural heritage of their people.
| The 2026 Online Then Singing and Tinh Playing Festival was launched in April 2026, attracting nearly 100 video entries. The Organizing Committee selected 31 outstanding performances to compete in the final round and awarded prizes at the gala night, with the participation of over 300 artisans and enthusiasts of Then singing and Tinh playing from across the country, including Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Ninh, and Dak Lak. |
