Man sentenced to 14 years in prison for scamming people by promising to help them obtain land ownership certificates.

HNN.VN - On June 23, the People's Court of Hue City held a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Nguyen Cong Thanh (born in 1977, residing in Hue City) to 14 years in prison for two crimes: "Fraudulent appropriation of property" and "Using forged documents of an agency or organization". The court also ordered the defendant to compensate the victims for all damages.

Since 2022, due to business losses and debts, Thanh conceived the idea of ​​committing fraud. The defendant claimed to have connections with government agencies and the ability to expedite land procedures such as issuing land use certificates, changing land use purposes, and subdividing land plots.

Trusting his promises, many people handed over money and documents to Thanh. However, after receiving a total of over 660 million VND, Thanh did not carry out any procedures but used all the money to pay off debts and for personal expenses.
