| Defendant Nguyen Cong Thanh in court. |
Since 2022, due to business losses and debts, Thanh conceived the idea of committing fraud. The defendant claimed to have connections with government agencies and the ability to expedite land procedures such as issuing land use certificates, changing land use purposes, and subdividing land plots.
Trusting his promises, many people handed over money and documents to Thanh. However, after receiving a total of over 660 million VND, Thanh did not carry out any procedures but used all the money to pay off debts and for personal expenses.
In late 2021, after processing a land title deed exchange for a resident, Thanh kept the original documents and had two fake land title deeds made. He then used one of the fake deeds, bearing his name, to fraudulently obtain an additional 40 million VND loan. The forensic examination confirmed that all signatures and seals on these documents were forged.
In court, Thanh admitted to all the charges. The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were particularly serious, not only infringing on citizens' property but also affecting the administrative management of the State.
This case serves as a costly lesson for people when dealing with land transactions. Instead of trusting connections that can expedite paperwork, people should directly contact the relevant authorities to follow the correct legal procedures and avoid financial losses and other problems.
