Lukaku wants to reunite with De Bruyne. |
“I’m experiencing mixed emotions. I’m moved by the team and my teammates. We worked tirelessly, and the important thing is that we succeeded,” Lukaku told DAZN after Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Cagliari in the final round of Serie A.
When asked if he had spoken with Kevin De Bruyne about a possible move to Napoli, Lukaku simply smiled and replied, "I have no comment." According to The Times , Napoli are currently targeting De Bruyne, after the Belgian midfielder's contract with Manchester City expires in June.
With both being teammates in the Belgian national team, Italian media believe Lukaku is one of the key factors in persuading De Bruyne to join Napoli.
Previously, Sky Sports reported that the Belgian midfielder was ready for a new life at Napoli and was helping to speed up the negotiations.
Family played a significant role in De Bruyne's decision. Michele Lacroix, De Bruyne's wife, also visited the Italian city to learn about their new home.
Following the FA Cup final on May 18th, De Bruyne shared his thoughts on his future: "I want to play top-level football, wherever I am. I'm also not sure if I'll stay in the Premier League. My decision now depends on my family."
However, De Bruyne and Napoli have yet to reach a personal agreement. Everything depends on Napoli's president, Aurelio De Laurentiis. The Belgian midfielder earns a very high salary at Man City (around £400,000 per week). If he moves to Napoli, he may have to accept a significant pay cut.
