In late February, journalist MarGurman reported that inventory of MacBook Air M3 and M2 at Apple stores was dwindling, suggesting Apple was planning to launch the MacBook Air M4 in March. Gurman noted that the MacBook Air M4 was a rare step in Apple's strategy to upgrade the entire Mac lineup to the M4 chip.

The device supports up to two external displays in addition to the built-in display and has a starting 16GB of unified memory, all packed into an impressively thin and light design built for durability.
The new device's performance is enhanced by the new M4 chip. This processor features a powerful 10-core CPU, up to 10-core GPU, and supports up to 32GB of unified memory, making the new MacBook Air twice as fast as the M1 model. When compared to the fastest Intel-powered MacBook Air, the M4 delivers up to 23 times faster performance.
According to Apple, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet performance is 4.7 times faster than the fastest Intel-powered MacBook Air and 1.6 times faster than the 13-inch MacBook Air with M1 processor. Video editing and photo editing in Adobe are 8 times faster, 3.6 times faster than the fastest Intel-powered MacBook Air, and 2 times faster than the MacBook Air M1, respectively.
Additionally, the device can browse the web 60% faster than a PC laptop with a more demanding Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, offering up to twice the performance.
The MacBook Air M4 can easily power a multi-monitor setup, making viewing and interacting with content easy and suitable for a wide range of users.
The new MacBook Air comes in a brand-new color: light blue with a metallic sheen, alongside other color options such as deep night blue, starlight, and silver.
