According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities, the highly anticipated MacBook Pro with an OLED display is expected to be launched by Apple early next year.

Although no details were given, the analyst believes the device will appear sometime between late 2026 and early 2027.

If equipped with an OLED display, MacRumors suggests the MacBook Pro will have better image quality than current models. Specifically, the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air use LCD panels with LED or Mini LED backlighting.

The advantages of OLED screens include vibrant colors, high contrast ratios, and wider viewing angles. Thanks to independently illuminating pixels, the device can save more energy depending on the content being displayed.

In addition to the OLED display, the next-generation MacBook Pro will feature several upgrades such as a thinner design, touch support, the Dynamic Island notch, and M6 Pro and M6 Max chips manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process.

For years, Apple opposed putting touchscreens on Macs. At an event in October 2010, the late CEO Steve Jobs asserted that "touch surfaces are not suitable for vertical placement" and that equipping Macs with touchscreens would be "worse ergonomically."

However, Apple now promotes the iPad as both a touchscreen tablet and a device that can be used with a keyboard. In 2023, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman reported that Apple was considering developing touchscreen Mac models, and it seems that this will soon become a reality.

Some rumors suggest that Apple might even equip the MacBook Pro with a C1X or C2 network modem to support 5G connectivity.

The last time the MacBook Pro received a new design was in 2021. In early March, Apple upgraded the product with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, without changing the appearance.

These upgrades mean the device's price could be higher. In a recent Power On news update, Gurman indicated that the company might position the product in the ultra-premium segment, even higher than the current MacBook Pro.

Kuo's article also updates some information. Specifically, the MacBook Neo will begin mass production in December 2025. Due to the delay, the projected production volume for 2026 is approximately 4.5-5 million units. According to Kuo, this is a "very impressive number" for a single laptop line.

With the next-generation MacBook Neo, some rumors suggested it might feature a touchscreen to compete with Chromebooks. However, the latest information from Kuo reveals the device will not have this feature.

Analysts predict that the MacBook Air may also feature a touchscreen, but not until 2028 or 2029.

This year, MacBook sales could reach 25 million units (a 20-25% increase compared to last year), returning to pre-pandemic peak levels. MacBooks will also be one of the rare laptop lines to record positive growth compared to other brands (which are expected to decline by more than 10%).
