this tournament.
Very adaptable and quick to adjust.
Napoli, based at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, suffered a dramatic decline in June 2024, finishing only 10th in Serie A despite celebrating their Italian league title just a year earlier. Having lost their title and fallen out of contention for European competitions despite changing three coaches throughout the season, Napoli truly seemed to have lost their way.
Amidst the heated situation, club owner Aurelio de Laurentiis remembered Conte, who was unemployed after being sacked by Tottenham. Conte is famous for his knack for winning titles with the teams he manages, from Juventus with three Serie A titles (2011-2014), Chelsea winning the Premier League (2016-2017), and Inter Milan's success in Serie A (2020-2021).

Winning championships is one thing, but Conte is also a manager who easily adapts to challenging circumstances wherever he goes. Adapting, adjusting, and constantly changing to create an environment suitable for his players, Conte always knows what to do to train his team and achieve the best possible results.
When officially embarking on the restructuring of Napoli, Conte was forced to rely on veterans in the defense such as Di Lorenzo (31 years old), Rrahmani (31), Spinazzola (32), and Matthias Olivera (27). In the attack, Victor Osimhen rebelled, demanding to leave and was loaned to Galatasaray. Another key player from the 2023 Scudetto campaign, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, was revived by Conte but also left in January 2025, joining the wealthy PSG.
Conte made his debut with a title when he led Napoli to victory over Modena in the Coppa Italia final in August 2024, but immediately suffered a bitter defeat in Serie A when his team lost 0-3 to Verona in the opening match. He had to apologize to the fans, never imagining that nine months later, everyone would be celebrating Napoli's return to the top.
Turning "rejects" into heroes.
By insisting on reuniting with his former pupil Romelu Lukaku, Conte has shown he has the ability to transform struggling stars into hopeful stars. Lukaku previously performed exceptionally well under Conte's leadership, scoring 64 goals in 95 games for Inter. This season, the €30 million star has been a key player in Napoli's attack, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists.
Scott McTominay is another case in point: the Scottish midfielder fell out of favor at Manchester United, but for just €30 million, Napoli acquired a gem. Not only did he quickly become the heart of the midfield, but with 12 Serie A goals and impressive performances, McTominay was named "Player of the Season." He scored the opening goal in the decisive match against Cagliari, burying the hopes of their arch-rivals Inter Milan.
By helping the Naples team win their second Scudetto title in three seasons – and their fourth title in the club's 99-year history – Conte became the second coach in history, following in the footsteps of Fabio Capello, to win the Serie A championship with three different teams: Juventus, Inter Milan, and Napoli.
Fans poured into the streets to celebrate Napoli's Scudetto title for days. President Aurelio de Laurentiis was the most restrained, quickly sitting down with Conte to discuss strategies for conquering their first European trophy since legendary Diego Maradona led the team to victory in the 1989 UEFA Cup.
Napoli must seize the opportunity, especially considering that "big clubs" like Juventus, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Fiorentina are not yet ready to return to form anytime soon.
