Specifically, after about 5 minutes of takeoff, passenger TTPD (25 years old, Vietnamese nationality), sitting in seat 11B, suddenly showed signs of abnormal health. The crew immediately used loudspeakers to call for support from doctors and medical staff who volunteered to be on the flight. At the same time, flight attendants performed first aid and provided oxygen to the passenger.
However, the passenger's health condition did not improve. The captain quickly contacted the Vietnam Airlines operations center and informed the ground department at Phu Bai airport to prepare emergency equipment and personnel. The flight was diverted to land at Phu Bai airport .
After landing, the passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, accompanied by relatives and representatives of Vietnam Airlines. Flight VN158 completed the necessary procedures and continued its journey to Hanoi at 9:10 a.m. the same day, about 1 hour later than planned.
Previously, many flights had to change their routes to assist passengers in need of medical assistance. Most recently, on May 5, Vietnam Airlines flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt (Germany) made an emergency landing at Erzurum airport (Turkey) to rescue a passenger. In January 2025, flight VN1602 from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi also changed its route to land at Da Nang airport for the same reason.
