According to Interesting Engineering, Bombardier announced on June 5th that its Global 8000 aircraft set a new speed record by flying from Montreal, Canada to Nice, France (6,132 km) in just over 6 hours. The aircraft completed the transatlantic flight carrying passengers to the Monaco Formula 1 race.
The flight demonstrated the operational capabilities of the ultra-long-range business jet, boasting a top speed of 1,152 km/h (Mach 0.95) and a range of 14,816 km. The Global 8000 is described as Bombardier's flagship business jet, combining long-range capabilities, high cruising speed, and a cabin designed to reduce fatigue on intercontinental flights.

The flight from Montreal to Nice marked the first speed record set by the Global 8000. While Bombardier did not disclose the exact flight time, only stating that the flight lasted over six hours, this journey highlighted the Global 8000's ability to travel between North America and Europe at high speeds. Its top speed of 1,152 km/h makes it one of the fastest business jets in the industry. The aircraft's long range targets customers who need to travel continuously between major business and leisure destinations globally.
According to Bombardier, the Global 8000 has a cabin altitude (the level of air pressure inside the aircraft's passenger cabin, equivalent to the altitude above sea level) of 820 meters when flying at an altitude of 12,496 meters above the ground. This is the lowest cabin altitude for a business class aircraft. A low cabin altitude can help reduce stress from flying at high altitudes, a crucial factor for passengers flying across multiple time zones on long flights.
According to New Atlas, the Global 8000 cockpit is equipped with advanced equipment, including four large display screens, electronic controls, a head-up display (HUD), an enhanced visibility system (EVS), a comprehensive observation system (SVS), flight planning, a Multi-Scan weather radar, and performance-based navigation (PBN).
The aircraft features four separate living spaces and a full galley, allowing passengers to work, eat, and rest during the flight. It also boasts advanced connectivity options and seats designed for increased comfort and support. Despite its large size and long range, the Global 8000 has takeoff and landing capabilities comparable to light jets. The Global 8000's advanced wing design, including forward-flaring flaps, improves access to small, restricted airports, providing operators with greater flexibility in route planning.
According to Corporate Jet Investor, in the ultra-long-range business jet market, Bombardier's Global 8000 competes directly with major rivals including the Gulfstream G800, Gulfstream G700, and Dassault Falcon 10X. The Gulfstream G800 has a range of 14,816 km, the same as the Global 8000, but a slightly lower top speed of 1,154 km/h (Mach 0.935). Meanwhile, the Gulfstream G700 also boasts a top speed of 1,154 km/h and an extremely long cabin, despite a slightly shorter range of 14,353 km. The Dassault Falcon 10X, designed like a penthouse in the sky, has a range of 13,890 km and a top speed of 1,142 km/h.
