Mbappe wins the European Golden Boot for the 2024/25 season. |
Despite Real Madrid's slight decline towards the end of Carlo Ancelotti's tenure, Mbappe still shone brightly with 43 goals in all competitions, including 31 in La Liga. With this achievement, he won two prestigious individual awards: the European Golden Boot and the Pichichi Trophy for the La Liga top scorer.
In La Liga, the French striker overtook Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona) in the race for the Pichichi award. Before the final El Clasico of the season, Lewandowski (27 goals) was leading. But Mbappe made a spectacular breakthrough with 7 goals in the last 4 La Liga matches, thus taking the top spot from the Polish striker.
This achievement makes Mbappe the first Real Madrid player to win the Pichichi award since Karim Benzema in 2022. He is also the fourth player in the club's history to win the award in his first season with the team, following legends like Alfredo Di Stéfano, Hugo Sanchez, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Not stopping there, Mbappe also won the European Golden Boot. With 31 goals in La Liga (calculated with a coefficient of 2), he earned 62 points, surpassing Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP (39 goals, but the Portuguese league coefficient is only 1.5 - 58.5 points) and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool (29 goals - 58 points).
Mbappé is also the first Real Madrid player in a decade to win the European Golden Boot, since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2015.
This double title win is the most convincing proof of a perfect debut season for Mbappe at Bernabeu. He continuously broke records, equaling and even surpassing legendary names like Ivan Zamorano, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Alfredo Di Stefano to etch his name into the history of the royal club.
Mbappe will be aiming to maintain this incredible goal-scoring form when he competes with Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup next summer.
