Previously, Mbappe had a fever and was unable to play in Real Madrid's 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in their opening match of Group H at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Immediately after the match, Real Madrid announced that Mbappe had "acute gastroenteritis." He was then taken to the hospital for a series of tests.
Gastroenteritis is an infection of the intestines that can cause vomiting and diarrhea. According to doctors, whether Mbappe can be fit to play in Real Madrid's second match depends on his response to treatment.
However, the French star is highly likely to miss Real Madrid's match against Pachuca of Mexico on June 23rd. But he could still return for Real's final match against RB Salzburg of Austria on June 27th.
Mbappe scored 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid in his first season after joining the Bernabeu club on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain.
This is also Real Madrid's first tournament under Xabi Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti as coach at the end of this season.
