Mbappe and the jinx of sacking coaches.

Since joining PSG in 2017, Kylian Mbappe has seen a manager sacked on average every 1.4 years.

Kylian Mbappe frequently witnesses coaches being sacked.

In the early hours of January 13th, Real Madrid announced the dismissal of coach Xabi Alonso. The Spanish strategist is the second coach to part ways with Mbappe since his move to Real Madrid in 2025.

Previously, Carlo Ancelotti left Real Madrid after only one season working with Mbappe. At PSG, in 2018, Unai Emery was sacked after working with Mbappe for only one season. Then, in 2020, Thomas Tuchel left after 2.5 seasons with the striker.

By 2022, Mauricio Pochettino was replaced after 18 months of coaching Mbappe. In 2023, Christophe Galtier was also sacked after just one season working with the striker. This reflects the instability at the top clubs Mbappe has played for (PSG, Real Madrid), despite his undeniable talent.

It also partly explains why, despite maintaining an impressive goal-scoring record, Mbappe has yet to win the Champions League or the Ballon d'Or in his career.

In the latest case of Alonso, Spanish media speculated that a conflict with Mbappe led to the coach's dismissal.

According to behind-the-scenes sources, Mbappe felt that standing to greet Barcelona during the Super Cup victory was unacceptable to Real Madrid's pride. Meanwhile, Alonso demanded that the Real Madrid stars show respect to their opponents.

The third team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship was Jordan U23, who won 1-0 against Kyrgyzstan U23. This victory secured their place in the quarterfinals alongside Vietnam U23 and Japan U23.
