The "Godmother" program, launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, has become a humane support system for many orphaned children nationwide. In Dong Le commune, the "Godmother - Nurturing the Future" program has been spreading the beautiful values of human kindness, connecting compassionate hearts to support underprivileged children, giving them more faith and strength to overcome challenges in life.

The Women's Union of Dong Le commune surveyed the number of orphaned children, those orphaned by both parents, and those orphaned by either parent. They compiled a list of orphaned children in difficult circumstances in the area who needed assistance; and organized propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage officials, members, and people from all walks of life to participate. With its profound humanitarian nature, the program has received attention from Party committees, government agencies, organizations, and individuals at all levels.

Currently, there are 103 orphans in the commune, of which 78 are in particularly difficult circumstances and need attention and support. Through the connection of the Dong Le Commune Women's Union, 64 orphans have been sponsored by 42 agencies, units, organizations, and individuals for a period of 3-5 years, with a total amount of nearly 1 billion VND, and support ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 VND per child per month.

According to Bui Thi Kim Nhung, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Dong Le Commune: “The ‘Godmother - Nurturing Future Steps’ program is spreading widely and achieving unexpected results. Despite facing many difficulties, agencies, units, and individuals continue to extend their arms to support those less fortunate. In particular, some local leaders and residents have voluntarily contributed funds to support many orphaned children, accompanying them until they reach adulthood.”

In response to the program, the Tuyen Hoa Forest Protection Department called on all its officials and employees to contribute, along with their savings, to sponsor Bui Tuan Kiet, a 4th-grade student from Thuong Phong village, with 300,000 VND per month for 5 years.

In addition, during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the unit also gives many extra gifts to encourage the child. Kiet's mother passed away after a serious illness, leaving the three of them to rely on each other. Thanks to the support of the Tuyen Hoa Forest Protection Department, Tuan Kiet and his siblings have better opportunities to go to school and live in the care and love of the community.

Head of Tuyen Hoa Forest Ranger Station Nguyen Van Hue shared: “Seeing the significance of sponsoring orphaned children, when the Women's Union of Dong Le commune launched a fundraising campaign, all officials and employees in the agency responded enthusiastically. In the future, the unit will continue to organize fundraising to sponsor more children or increase the amount of money sponsored for them.”

One of the cases receiving support from the program is Nguyen Quang Trung, a first-grade student at Son Hoa Primary School. Trung's childhood was marked by hardship when his father died in a work accident. Since then, the burden of life has fallen on the shoulders of his young mother, Cao Thi Bien Thuy. Ms. Thuy single-handedly raises two young children, has no stable job, and the lives of the three of them mainly depend on a few acres of farmland and seasonal hired labor.

Understanding his difficult circumstances, since April 2026, the Women's Union of Dong Le commune has connected with the Commune Military Command to sponsor Nguyen Quang Trung within the framework of the "Godmother - Nurturing the Future" program. Each month, Trung receives 500,000 VND for 5 years. While the amount is not large, it is a practical source of encouragement, helping him to have a better life and future.

Ms. Cao Thi Bien Thuy shared: “Besides providing material support, the officers and soldiers of the Commune Military Command also regularly visit and encourage my family. Their words of encouragement and sincere sharing have given my three children and me the strength to overcome difficulties and have faith in the future.”

The Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Dong Le Commune, Bui Thi Kim Nhung, added: "There are still many orphaned children in the commune who need help. Therefore, the Union hopes to receive the support of the Party Committee, the government, organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and the entire society to have more resources to care for these children. The Union will also do a good job of connecting and coordinating, ensuring that all support is used for the right purpose and target group, helping the children have better conditions for learning and development."
